Discover the power of storytelling with our featured guest: Seng “Sam” Ung

“Moving on from horrific experiences in your past takes courage. The challenges in life have made me stronger.” Sam Ung is a well-known Seattle chef as well as owner of Phnom Penh Noodle House located in the International District. He survived the Khmer Rouge and has written his detailed accounts in a book entitled, “I Survived the Killing Fields”. He has maintained some personal items when he escaped, which he displays and lends to his legacy and healing process. Born and raised in Battambang, Cambodia in 1955, Sam and his wife Kim fled their birth country. They sought refuge in neighboring Thailand, only to be refused twice before being finally let in. After sponsorship from a family member and church, they finally arrived in the United States in August 1980. Adapting to life in a new country, Sam and Kim have raised three American daughters and pursue their American dreams.
