From Carmela Dellino, Executive Director of Schools – West Seattle Region:

Hello

Thank you for your email. Thank you also for all you and the parent community have contributed to making the launch of K-5 STEM such a success. We know that what makes a successful school is all members of the community working together on behalf of the students. Your school has quickly emerged as a strong academic program, established specifically in the West Seattle region, due to over-capacity concerns and the demand for focused curriculum and instruction in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

I understand how stressful and frustrating it might be that there is not yet a decision regarding West Seattle STEM’s final home. I want you to know that I have always supported West Seattle STEM and will continue to do so. I watched as your vision and mission statement was crafted and am working with Dr. McKinney and her team as she develops the strategic plan.

We have asked to participate in your PTA meeting scheduled on January 15, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. This will be an opportunity to have District staff, School Board Director Marty McLaren, and the STEM parents/guardians discuss the options available, the limitations we face, and your concerns and ideas. As you most likely are aware, West Seattle STEM will continue to be at the Boren site for the 2013 – 2014 school year. Our discussion will focus on the permanent location.

I look forward to meeting you on January 15th. May your winter break be restful and filled with joy.

Sincerely,

Carmela Dellino
Executive Director of Schools – West Seattle Region
