Fight Like a Girl is an ode to overcoming demons through boxing that tells a larger story about abuse, trauma, mental illness, and healing. Its creator Jill Morley is a prolific artist and media voice. Her other award-winning films have appeared at the American Film Institute, the Santa Barbara Film Festival, The Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival and the International San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and have run on the Sundance Channel. She has also written extensively for publications like The Village Voice and Bust Magazine, and worked as a producer on NPR’s This American Life and Michael Moore’s The Awful Truth. Morley believes in the power of supporting young women through programs like Reel Grrls, and is coming to Seattle for this screening of her film and to kick off the campaign benefiting the organization.

Early this fall, Reel Grrls welcomed new Executive Director Nancy Chang, who has brought refreshing energy back to Reel Grrls. Nancy is a tenacious and accomplished youth program innovator. She brings deep and authentic youth community development experience to Reel Grrls from her position as Co-Founder and Board Chair of Skate Like a Girl, a non-profit promoting an all-inclusive skateboarding community. With a background in art and public administration, she has successfully applied her skills to developing creative solutions for building healthy communities, shifting culture, and maintaining fiscally sound programming in the cities of Redmond, Seattle and beyond.

Nancy, Jill, and the board of Reel Grrls welcome you to this one-of-a-kind event, where you’ll also learn about our community-based program design approach and how to get more involved in Reel Grrls. Reel Grrls is proud to partner as a resident organization with Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. The event is free, doors open at 6 pm, and the program starts at 7 pm.
