Breakin’ Up Christmas Concert and Square Dance
featuring Erynn Marshall & Carl Jones from Galax, VA, with local support from Charmaine Slaven, Tony Mates, Catherine Alexander!

There is a southern Appalachian tradition during the 12 days between December 25 and “Old Christmas” (January 5th) of having house parties and dances. Rugs are rolled back and the music and dancing continue in the wee hours, with revelers sometimes going house-to-house. More info about the tradition of “breaking up Christmas” in this article out of Galax, VA.

We’re fortunate to be having masters of the old time music tradition, Carl Jones and Erynn Marshall, who live in Galax, Virginia will be passing through town during that time. Carl and Erynn will perform a concert before the dance, then will be joined by Tony Mates on bass, Catherine Alexander on guitar, and Charmaine Slaven who will teach and call the dances! No experience needed!

No table seats for this show. General admission $10; seniors and students $8.
$4 for children 12 and under.
