Adolescent Depression and Suicide will be the topic of an information seminar & workshop at the High Point Public Library on Tuesday, January 29th from 6-8 pm in the library conference room.
The Chief Sealth High School PTSA is proud to sponsor the evening’s program in partnership with Ken Gollersrud, teen librarian at the High Point Library.
Karyn Brownson, LMSW, is a King County trainer with the Youth Suicide Prevention Program. They are a statewide, nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce youth suicide attempts and deaths in Washington.
Karyn will cover adolescent development and mental health, signs of depression and anxiety in teens, red flags for suicide risk and what parents can do to create a supportive environment, and intervene in a crisis.
Jane Koltracht works for the UW & Seattle Children’s Hospital on a project called the CARES study through the Treatment Clinic for Teens. They are a research clinic offering six months of treatment for suicidal/self-harming teenagers free of charge.
She will be discussing their current recruiting plan for eligible teenagers which will be continuing to enroll teens for some time. (email is caresuw@uw.edu)
