2014 Northwest Green Home Tour

West Seattle stops are part of the 2014 Green Home Tour April 26th, 11 am–5 pm. Maps and home information available at www.nwgreenhometour.org.

It’s that time of year again! So mark your calendar: Saturday April 26th from 11 am to 5 pm.

Free and fun for the whole family, this self-guided tour features 35 healthy and green new homes and remodels in the Seattle area and beyond.

Visit www.nwgreenhometour.org to download the official tour map, which is also printed in the April edition of Natural Awakenings magazine.

Two West Seattle homes will be featured as tour sites and one neighborhood organization will be featured as a Sustainability Stop. Participants can take a free, self-guided tour of these beautiful and innovative spaces, talk to the professionals, and learn how to transform their home to become part of a healthier, more sustainable community.

This two-story, West Seattle waterfront home overlooks the Olympic mountains and is attempting a 5 Star Built Green Rating, with features such as a heat pump, a heat recovery ventilator and super insulation, on-demand hot water, a 6kW PV (solar energy) system, and rain gardens.

This small and mighty home features exciting energy retrofits, a progressive remodel, and an innovative layout for this growing family. Highlights include a newly-remodeled bathroom, hybrid heating system, solar, and more! Learn more about their renovations that promote indoor air quality and health and meet experts from Habitat Energy Audits, Artisan

Sustainability Stop: Highland Park – A Gathering Place Goes Green hosted
by the Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) and RainWise – 1116 SW Holden

HPIC is undertaking a green transformation, recently incorporating innovative storm water control methods, including rain gardens, a cistern, and a brand new permeable paver community courtyard. Self-guided tours will highlight how HPIC’s green transformation is spreading into the neighborhood. Visitors can enjoy food, fun learning activities, and the
chance to meet RainWise contractors who install cisterns and rain gardens.

Get inspired by projects in all shades of green, from kitchen remodels to cutting-edge new homes. Learn how to go solar, conserve water, lower your energy bills, and create a healthy home environment.

In addition to the homes on the tour, 12 Sustainability Stops will offer healthy refreshments, demos, and giveaways.
