Lights! Camera! Action! The soundtrack is often as important a character in a movie as the leading actor or actress. It sets the mood for each scene and creates a lasting memory in our minds between the song and the film. Bells of the Sound will present a concert program of some of the most memorable movie music in A Night at the Movies. From classics like Brazil, American Graffiti and Star Wars, to musicals like Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music and Anything Goes and children’s favorites like The Muppet Movie, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, we’ll have you reaching for the popcorn and Raisinets in no time! SATURDAY NIGHT: We are holding an impromptu Benefit Concert this coming Saturday evening, May 15, at 7 pm to benefit our friends Alexa and JP, who lost their Woodinville home and everything they own on May 3. Alexa runs Basset Rescue of Puget Sound in addition to her caregiver job, and they got all but one of the 11 rescue animals out of the house, but lost their cat, birds, and everything else. Our amazing, giving community is pulling together here to help out with cash donations, furniture, support for the rescue dogs, and on and on. People from animal rescue, the Red Cross, Woodinville firefighters, friends of Westcrest Park, and the community at Fauntleroy are all supporting this event. “Trillium Soul” – Bronwyn Edwards Cryer, Sarah Ackers and Betsy Boyer – will perform folk, jazz and gospel-flavored music, supported by other musician friends at 7pm in Fellowship Hall, Fauntleroy Church, 9140 California Ave SW, Seattle 98136. Admission is a donation. We suggest $10-$15 but no donation is too small. Seats can be reserved by calling Bron at 206-938-3820. It will help us get some idea of how many people will be attending, and we’re expecting a decent crowd. We will also accept donations of household essentials such as blankets, pots, pans, dishes, etc.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON: Board Game Afternoon at Southwest Library: Itching for a game of Settlers? Have a new game, and want people to play with? Want to learn a new board game? All ages of board game players are invited to play upstairs at the branch from 1 to 4:30 pm. We’ll bring a stack of our favorites (Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Scrabble, Dominion…etc.). You can introduce us to your favorite, or play one of ours–we can provide instruction if needed. Families with children old enough to enjoy board games are welcome; we request that parents consider their child(ren)’s temperament in deciding whether they would enjoy this event, and plan to attend with their child(ren). Most of our games are aimed at the age-10-to-adult range, but we do have some for younger players. We are unable to provide child care for this event. SUNDAY AFTERNOON: The Orchestra of Flight is hosting its annual fundraising family dinner/concert on May 16th at the Highland Park Improvement Club in West Seattle. Doors open at 4 PM and a pot-luck dinner is provided by orchestra members starting at 4:30 with a concert to follow at 5:30. This year’s concert program covers a dance theme including the Morgenblätter waltz by Strauss, The Slavonic Dances 5-8 by Dvorak, Hoe-Down from Copland’s Rodeo, Nr. 1 Colonial Song by Grainger and selections from Symphony No. 3 in E-flat by Schumann and Hummel’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra with solo by Dave Hamilton. The Orchestra is a volunteer community group performing in the Puget Sound area since 1983. We play at many area retirement and nursing homes providing live classical music entertainment to those that might not be able to enjoy it otherwise.
