West Seattle Crime Watch: Seen this stolen 1986 Porsche? Plus, helicopter false alarm

ORIGINAL 8:18 PM REPORT: Grant‘s 1986 Porsche was stolen today from the apartment-building parking lot at 6533 California SW in Morgan Junction. Maybe you’ll be the one to help find it.

The car was last seen in my parking lot at 8 am (ish) before I left for work on Saturday November 21st. And when I got home at around 4:30 or 4:45 the car was gone. It is a black Porsche 944 Model Year 1986. It means a lot to me and I would love to see it returned safe and sound. I have included a picture of the car, its not super current (and the white writing over the back window is no longer there, was when I first bought it) but it does show a view of the back and the current license plate.

The theft is already on record with SPD, and tweeted via @getyourcarback – as the tweet says, if you see it, call 911.

ADDED 8:37 PM: Unrelated to the aforementioned auto theft but since we already have this Crime Watch story up – Guardian One just explained what they were doing over Upper Fauntleroy/Gatewood for a few minutes (including a few passes over WSB HQ):

Sorry for your loss Grant. I hope you get it back. Did you have any type of anti theft device on your car? Once again another ’86 vehicle stolen in West Seattle.
My ’86 still has not been found.

I believe these thefts are the work of local career criminals and or some type of illegal chop shop.

I ask all local good neighbors from West Seattle to White Center. To be on the lookout for anyone that works on a lot of cars or has a lot of vehicle traffic at their residence. Possibly even a large shop behind the residence. To call 911 & report it to the police even if they “are the nicest people”. As thieves hide in plain sight.

WSB it’s a long shot considering how long it’s been, but how do I get my vehicle on getyourcarback?

WS4, SPD tweets stolen cars after announcing them on police frequencies. So if you reported this to police, it would have likely been tweeted that same day sometime. I don’t look up the tweets for all the vehicles we post but in this case I’d noticed they had tweeted it so I linked it.

Well, that really sucks. Was it stolen from the front lot or back? Curious,as I live here.

Grant, I would focus on the criminals who were videotaped repeatedly attempting to steal Laura’s classic Chevy in October.

Bummer, Grant. That is a sweet ride. While the 944s were much better than the 924s, they were still fairly unremarkable. The 944 Turbo, however, was a benchmark for high performing yet somewhat affordable 80s sports cars. They were fairly rare and much sought after. I’m guessing some pros who knew what they were doing had their eyes on this beauty for a while, and if that’s the case it’s probably on it’s way to California (sadly ironic) by now. I hope for your sake it was just some teens out for a joyride and it turns up just slightly damaged somewhere in West Seattle. I’ll keep my eye out for you, man, I always notice nice European sports cars of all vintages and there’s a good chance it’s the only black 944 Turbo in the entire city.

Seems to be an uptick in car breakins and thefts recently around the Morgan Junction recently.

Think I might need to buy an outdoor security camera and point it toward my car.

Yeah, thought that was yours. I’ll keep a brain out for you.

I just got the call from SPD that it was found! Haven’t seen it yet but just hoping whoever took it didn’t do too much too it.

  • Rick November 23, 2015 (12:12 pm)

    Cool

Sorry to hear that Grant, but glad it was found!!! I have a black 1989 Turbo S and would hate for it to get stolen.
Now it’s time to be vigilant and watch out for crooks and get your alarm installed!
Mine ’89 has the stock one and it is loud!

My car was possibly rummaged through this weekend. I live in a more wooded area of West Seattle near Alki and never really worried about a car break in.

90’s European sports car, desirable model. no sign of attempted theft. Only my glovebox was open and nothing taken.

Sorry, comment time is over.
