TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Tuesday updates & alerts

(Four WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
7:39 AM: The SDOT cameras are fixed, so the bridge views are back … and backed up, though it’s mostly “just” the rain – the big incidents this morning are NOT on the outbound routes from here, but instead on northbound I-5 *south* of West Seattle (truck crashes at Albro and in Federal Way).

8:05 AM: That said, as pointed out in comments, alternate routes are affected as people divert. Meantime, a transportation-related note on tonight’s calendar: The first and biggest of three City Council forums/debates in West Seattle this week is tonight, and you can expect to hear a lot about transportation since the WS Transportation Coalition is co-presenting with the WS Chamber of Commerce. All are welcome, 6:15 pm mingling, 6:45 pm debating, citywide Positions 8 and 9 first, then West Seattle/South Park District 1 – it’s happening at Neighborhood House’s High Point Center (6400 Sylvan Way).

9:09 AM: Bridge trouble, per SDOT:

9:22 AM: And don’t take the low bridge as an alternate route right now:

Traffic going North into the city is crazy backed up – all the way from Tukwila to the First avenue bridge and side streets too.

Stalled vehicle eastbound on high bridge just before the crest. Blocking the second from leftmost lane. SPD on scene.

Thanks, JUST got that from SDOT and am adding.

traffic was crazy this morning. I saw at least a half dozen cars driving east in the westbound lane of Andover (coming from 28th Ave SW towards Delridge). Most were headed for the Nucor driveway, but one guy drove the wrong way in his lane all the way up the street, in order to turn left onto Delridge! what the what !?!? saw one near head-on collision due to that craziness. (this was around 7:40)

Approximately 10 minutes after 10:00 AM, heading east on West Seattle Bridge toward northbound I – 5- traffic police are stationed in the core point at the top of the on-ramp. Causing longer than usual bridge backups.

Marisa – are they there enforcing the gore point and double white line or further up at the gore where the right lane goes to I 90? Both need to be babysat unfortunately.

  • hj October 13, 2015 (2:00 pm)

This morning they were enforcing the double white line.

I agree that the subsequent exit to I-90 is also a hive of scum and villainy but given that it’s not a double white line, I don’t know what enforcement can be done. Unsafe lane change maybe, although that would be hard to argue when everyone is already crawling along at 5mph.

“Hive of scum and villainy” I love that! So true.
    .
I’m probably preaching to the choir but the cross hatched area (gore point) is illegal to cross. HJ is correct in that it is a ticket for an unsafe lane change. People from I 5 north cross it to get in the WS bridge on ramp lane which turns into I 90. People from the WS Bridge on ramp lane cross the left gore point to get in the I 5 thru lanes. They also cross the right gore point to get in the merge lane that comes down from the Columbian Way/Beacon Hill area. A lot of dangerous, traffic stopping, mixing.
    .
People have about a mile to merge to I 5 before I 90 but they try to do it before it’s even legal and I think this slowdown trickles down and it’s one reason why the bridge is so bad eastbound in the left lane (every weekday morning and afternoon).
    .
The white line “crossers” don’t help and make it more accident prone as well.

Sorry, comment time is over.
