VIDEO: See what today’s gusty, soggy storm did in West Seattle

(SCROLL DOWN for updated storm info)

1:58 PM: You’ve probably noticed the wind has kicked up in a big way. The National Weather Service now has the area under a “wind advisory” alert until 5 pm, with sustained winds from the south-southwest at 20 to 30 mph, and the possibility of gusts up to 45 mph.

2:23 PM: Since then, we’ve also had another wave of heavy rain, and we’re hearing reports of some street flooding, including near the heart of Morgan Junction. Off to check. Also adding a phone-video clip from one wind/rain burst. Check your nearest storm drains when you can to be sure leaves/other debris aren’t clogging them.

3:20 PM: That video is from Fauntleroy Way in the Fairmount Springs area, where leaf-clogged drains have left enough water across the road for hydroplaning. We noticed some caring souls out there working to unclog the drains. We also checked out the alley behind the businesses on the west side of 4700 block of California SW in The Junction – longtime troublespot:

Brian Allen sent word that Weather Underground tallies the rain at more than an inch, this afternoon alone. Also just caught this traffic alert via a tip from Tamisha:

4:38 PM: The ramp is open again.

And rain has picked up too. I drove up Ferry this morning and noticed a big tree seems to be leaning over the road a lot more than it used to. Not sure who I should contact…

I would try the SDOT hotline 206-684-ROAD, not sure if it’s answered 24/7 but it’s a good place to start. The rain is pretty serious indeed, adding a phone video clip just for posterity’s sake. Enough to flood a Steller’s Jay out of our roof gutters … I don’t have a ladder to look, hoping there’s not a nest setting sail up there.

Thanks Tracy! I called that number and got a live person. They said they would have someone look at it. You are such a great resource! Glad Danny Westneat gave you credit this morning.

A big pond is forming next to the steeli mill, where thank goodness the bus driver owed to 10 mph instead of hydroplaning. Not all drivers will be so alert…….

Puddles everywhere! We went down Alaska to 35th to Avalon and down Genesee and followed the water. Crazy!

We’ll be adding some video shortly of hydroplaning through Fauntleroy Way “puddles” as well as the swamped alley behind the west side of the 4700 block of Calif.

They have closed the east bound lane that runs from Avalon way up the West Seattle Bridge

Just added that a few minutes ago. Thank you! – TR

The low spot on 99 southbound right lane, just before the West Seattle exit is overflowing onto the middle lane.

Looked like at least one car stalled out trying to drive through the Admiral on-ramp puddles before it was closed. There are also several branches down in the downhill curb lane of Admiral near City View forcing cars to merge into the left lane.

If you can safely, clean out the storm drains around your house and/or neighborhood.

Intersection at California & Fauntleroy was especially bad a few hours ago- another recurring problem .

please be aware that driving through big puddles can suck water into your air intake and break your engine big time. two seconds and it’s over!

A light drizzle floods that alley behind the Jct. businesses. I would think they would all have gotten tired of it and done something about it by now.

Sorry, comment time is over.
