West Seattle Saturday: Give, learn, create, volunteer, adopt, celebrate, share …

Happy Saturday! Highlights for today/tonight, from the WSB West Seattle Event Calendar:

DON’T TOSS IT, DONATE IT! West Seattle Jr. Football and Cheer are hosting a clothing and textile drive today:

Dropoff will be at West Seattle High School. There Will be a Clothes For The Cause trailer parked at the north end parking lot from 9 AM to 5 PM. We all have unwanted textiles that are out of fashion, not needed, or no longer fit. Instead of discarding surplus clothing and household linens, give them a second life through supporting West Seattle Jr. Football and Cheer.

Accepted items: clothing new and old, paired shoes (any kind, any condition), towels – bath, kitchen, rags, blankets, sheets, quilts, backpacks, curtain/drapery, purses, belts, tablecloth, placemats, stuffed animals.

Noticed a downed tree west of the intersection of Admiral Way and 49th. Not a traffic hazard but blocking the sidewalk.

Thanks, Walker. We’ll look for it when we go out in a bit. Pretty serious rain up here.

Any idea what’s going on at the VFW? BBQ smoker thing outside and lots of fancy people headed there. Wedding?

We had an awesome planting event at North Shorewood Park today, thanks neighbors who braved the rain and came out to plant 80 native trees and shrubs in the south west corner of the park. Anyone who has not checked this lovely neighborhood forest out should come and visit. There are forest trails, a playground and a big grass lawn. Any west seattlelites who want to help make the forests of our peninsula healthier and come and plant some trees with me – my next planting volunteer event is on 10/31 at White Center Heights Park – join us for a spooky planting complete with a nature scavenger hunt and treats!
