FOLLOWUP: Alicia Goemaat charged with murder in Morgan Junction toddler’s death

Just in from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office: 20-year-old Alicia J. Goemaat is now charged with second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend’s 17-month-old son, Drue Lehto. The allegations are the same as described at the time of her bail hearing last week – that she kicked Drue in the abdomen twice, then put him in his crib, and that’s where the child’s father found his son dead after returning from a trip to the store; court documents say she later confessed to kicking Drue after becoming angry when he and her son, a few months older, fought over a toy. Goemaat remains in the King County Jail, now awaiting arraignment, with prosecutors asking that her bail remain set at $1 million.

As shown here last night, neighbors have started a sidewalk-side memorial for Drue; his father’s family is raising money online for his funeral, and gave us permission to use the family photo shown above.

any info on who has custody of the other boy? and counseling for the other child as witness to the murder of his playmate/sibling? was the other child also hit/injured during this altercation? physical exam for the other child to determine if there was previously undetected history of him also being physically abused?

the dad has got to be horribly traumatized by this; hoping there are other adults/family stepping in, and counseling for both the remaining child and the dad; prayers for all

How absolutely devastating. As a new father myself, I can’t even begin to imagine what this father is going through. Absolutely tragic.

Man oh man…makes me sick to think about it. The poor father – what was she thinking? Mental illness, her own abusive upbringing (?)…what could possibly trigger this much anger? I’m so sorry for your loss (anyone who loved this little boy). God have mercy on her – it’s the only hope she has left.

Parenthood is the hardest and most overwhelming experience I’ve had. I have everything ( husband, enough money, family support, a home) and most days are still too much. I looked at the woman who was charged on Facebook. She is so young. Communities need to better support these young and under privileged parents so horrible things like this don’t happen. Unimaginable for all involved.

I know the young lady who is responsible. It is a total shock to everyone. She was such a sweet girl. Has had a lot of issues though. All of our hearts go out to the child’s father. We are praying. RIP Druh

To everyone wondering…her son is with his father and perfectly fine and doesnt know what happened. I know her personally and even babysat her as a child. She was a cheerleader and strait A student. Her fatal mistake was the drugs. Everyone in this horror story is seeking the help they need. More news on this story will be released soon. As the press conference is scheduled. Im not saying what she did is excusable.. because it is not at all ok to harm a child. But know she is cooperating and is gonna get what the judicial systems feels necessary. Please pray for her son. He needs them as he is now left wondering what is going on.

Actually, her son is not with the father. Hes with family because cps took him and is making a mess of things so he’s doing all he can to get him back.

Sorry, comment time is over.
