West Seattle Comcast outage: Seaview, Morgan trouble

11:38 PM: If you’ve been having trouble with Comcast service tonight in Seaview or Morgan Junction – it’s not just you. We’ve heard from people via all our channels with problems in those areas. Since Comcast itself doesn’t have a publicly accessible official outage map so far as we can tell, it’s important that you call to report it if you’re affected … let us know what you hear back in terms of a fix. While this doesn’t seem to be as widespread as the infamous June 1st outage, this is the largest number of reports we’ve received since that one.

7:51 AM: Some have theirs back, as noted in comments below. At least one person says on Twitter that theirs came back – then went away again.

Internet has been down/up/down the past few hours. 49th ave SW / Juneau in Seaview. Thanks for confirming it wasn’t just us!

  • Chemist October 1, 2015 (11:50 pm)

No public outage map but logging into your Comcast billing acct and looking at services will show a status and if there’s a reported outage that affects you. It’s not just DNS this time as even TV is out. About two hours ago it was estimating repair at 1 AM .

  • Steve P October 1, 2015 (11:57 pm)

I called right after it went off, they didn’t have it listed as an outage yet but while I was talking to her the outage notice popped up on her screen. Apparently enough people call in to finally trigger it.
Only customers can log in to see outage notices, which makes little sense if I have no internet, but I guess you could use your mobile device.
She told me about 2hrs, and about 2hrs later it came up, briefly. It’s been up and down a few times since.
    {sigh}
Guess it’s just time to go to bed….

  • JeffK October 2, 2015 (5:49 am)

I lost internet yesterday too. It’s back up this morning but definitely has moments where it is slowing down or bogs out for 10+ seconds. It’s Comcastic!

  • Still out October 2, 2015 (5:55 am)

Its 5:54AM and the internet is still out for my neighbor, while mine is extremely slow and spotty. I really wish they could get this resolved soon.

  • Jim McCabe October 2, 2015 (5:59 am)

Service was restored around 5am in Seaview.

  • CB October 2, 2015 (6:27 am)

    Still out in Seaview.

  • Kevin October 2, 2015 (6:55 am)

Still out in Seaview at 48th & Juneau. Cable/phone/internet. Comcast website says outage expected to be resolved by 11 AM.

  • CB October 2, 2015 (7:06 am)

Still out in Seaview this AM.

  • Chuck October 2, 2015 (8:05 am)

Broken signal (ESPN w hiccups) at Graham. Oh how I loathe you, Comcast.

  • Eddie October 2, 2015 (8:13 am)

Not specific to this outage, but does anyone else notice that Comcast channel 105 (KING) has frequent digital dropouts during the 5pm news hour? This has been going on for years.

  • CB October 2, 2015 (8:47 am)

Back online here, for the moment. A little bit ago I walked by a pack of five Xfinity repair trucks working on Graham between 45th & 47th.

    • WSB October 2, 2015 (8:58 am)

CB, thanks for the tip – that might be a good photo to go with this if they’re still there when we can unchain from the desk in a bit …

  • Grrrr October 2, 2015 (8:47 am)

My comcast (that is Phone ,TV and Internet) went out around 7:30 pm last night… I was told. 9:27 pm it would be back on.. Nope then I went online and it told me 1:00am… Nope. So now this morning I called and they say 10:00am.
How much do you want to bet???

  • Brandon October 2, 2015 (8:50 am)

I just found out Centurylink fiber is in West Seattle. Just scheduled to switch over. Comcast has been pretty horrible in both cable service and customer service. Glad to get rid of them.

  • Steve P October 2, 2015 (9:00 am)

Yep, still up and down like a yo-yo this morning. I urge everyone affected to call comcast and get some credit on their bill. I got 1 days credit last night when they thought it would be just a 2 hr outage. You don’t even have to argue with them, they’ll give it to you if you simply ask, no problem. If it’s still out tonight I’ll call and get another days credit too.
I know it’s only a few dollars but every dollar counts to those of us on a tight budget.

  • CB October 2, 2015 (9:05 am)

That was at about 8:10. Since my service is back up, I suspect they finally found the problem and are gone by now. I hope…

  • Trickycoolj October 2, 2015 (9:17 am)

Make sure when it comes back to power cycle your modem and router. Frequent connect/disconnect cycles can get them essentially clogged up. A full 60 second power cycle (look at a clock it feels longer than you think) will make sure everything gets a clean connection. Once it’s up.

  • AOD October 2, 2015 (9:18 am)

Still out at 46th and Juneau…. Makes WFH a bit challenging!

  • carol October 2, 2015 (9:24 am)

Am working at Café Lladro on California which has internet. Boy it does screw up the “work in pjs, don’t waste time on commute” work from home system.
Thanks WestSeattleBlog and commenters on whether it’s “safe” to go home.

  • Robert Dinse October 2, 2015 (9:33 am)

Outage is far more widespread than just West Seattle, no Internet or Phones from Comcast here in Shoreline either. You can find an outage map here: https://downdetector.com/status/comcast-xfinity/map/

    • WSB October 2, 2015 (9:42 am)

Yes, some in Shoreline too, saw that last night on the crowdsourced map you mention, but it’s not stretching all the way from here TO there – we checked around on Twitter and people in other areas of West Seattle had no problems. Including us here in upper Fauntleroy, barely a mile from the outage zone.

  • JeffK October 2, 2015 (10:42 am)

Brandon, you got me to check availability again. I can now get CL giga-fiber. Yikes, $154/mo (2-yr commitment) + $180 install.

  • chemist October 2, 2015 (12:00 pm)

If you have an orange/red band with “fiber” printed on it near the pole on one of the lower wires in your area, that is how centurylink fiber frequently appears in this area.
    .
JeffK, that sounds unusually high for just internet. A flier came in the mail with the grocery adverts the other day for Prism Essential TV + 40/5 internet for $65/mo with 1 year contact and various equipment fees. That would be installed with fiber if that’s on the poles near you.
In late spring the install fees were $60 for standard installation and $20 for internet “activation” and they were advertising the gigabit service for $109. Modem rental is $8 plus a $2 “internet cost recovery fee”. I signed up for 40/5 for $30/month and my ongoing bill is $42 with a rented modem. 1 yr contract, internet only, auto-billpay required.
    .
I still have comcast for my cablecard so this outage took that out until this morning.

  • carol October 2, 2015 (12:28 pm)

12 noon: seems like Internet is back. Back now for 1/2 hour so am keeping my fingers crossed that it’s not going down again.

  • JeffK October 2, 2015 (12:52 pm)

    Double checking, internet only:
    40Mbps = $74/mo
    100Mbps = $94/mo
    1000Mbps = $153.95/mo

TV adds $35-80/mo. depending on channel package.

  • chemist October 2, 2015 (1:27 pm)

It must be that they’re pushing bundles as their promo deals/specials now JeffK. Prism was formally offered a few months after I signed up but my installer was talking about it being demo’ed/installed in the homes of centurylink employees/execs as part of testing.
    .
I see the types of prices I was expecting when you “bundle” with prism essential TV service and their $100 prepaid visa bonus.

  • Reuben October 2, 2015 (3:07 pm)

Feels like it’s been 3 days of spotty internet/time outs. Here in FALL CITY/REDMOND.

  • PW45 October 2, 2015 (4:15 pm)

well i sure hope we get reimbursed for the time we went without internet. plus emotional damages, i mean how am i supposed to live my life without updates? this is ridiculous.

  • snowball October 2, 2015 (8:04 pm)

Ours is STILL out in Seaview and when we called Comcast this evening they denied there was any outage in our area at all over the last 24 hours!

  • B October 2, 2015 (8:28 pm)

Yep, My TV and Internet just went out for the second day in a row. Called Comcrap, they kept asking if I could power cycle my modem, or could I give them my mac address. They said they would send a technician to my house. I asked them to send the technician to the telephone pole across the street and he could work upstream from there. They also offered a couple of days credit for what it’s worth.

Sorry, comment time is over.
