Next Friday, last ‘Laps With Lou’ before Pathfinder PE teacher & Make-A-Wish hero Lou Cutler retires

It’s been one of our favorite stories to cover every year we’ve done this – but next Friday will be our last chance to report on another round of “Laps With Lou“: Pathfinder K-8 PE teacher Lou Cutler is retiring. For 12 years now, on a day close to his birthday, he has been joined by students and other members of the Pathfinder community in running one lap for each year he’s been on the planet, with pledges for Make-A-Wish, the nonprofit for which he’s spent almost 20 years volunteering. This year, Lou and friends will run 64 laps around the field. You’re invited to cheer him on, one last time, starting at 8:45 am next Friday (May 29th) on the field at Pathfinder (1901 SW Genesee on Pigeon Point). You can pledge/donate in advance, too – just go here.

Congratulations Lou! Thank you for the many years of great coaching with Pathfinder. Students, parents and staff are sad we won’t be seeing you at school as much but we wish you all the best in retirement. Our kid has gone to Pathfinder from second through eighth grade and your coaching has helped instill a love of sports, active living and community service that will be with him for the rest of his life. You’ve been integral to making this happen for hundreds of kids! And beyond the Pathfinder community – and even beyond Seattle – through Make-A-Wish your positive influence has gone even further. Thank you.

Thanks, Lou, for all you’ve done for Make a Wish and the Pathfinder Community! When our son was attending Pathfinder, I had the great fun of volunteering in your PE class for a couple hours a week. Not only was “Laps with Lou” a huge hit, the memories of coralling 30+ kids at a time and fitting them into roller skates, helping them with their first tentative ‘glides’ will live on in my mind for ever. As will watching them try out archery and unicycling. What a great ‘teacher’ ! You are the best!!

We love you, Lou! You are an amazing coach and human being. We are so glad our two kids have had the chance to be taught by you, they have learned so much. Here’s hoping this is your biggest fundraising year ever!

So my fantasy that you will come back to PF every year for Laps with Lou is not coming true?

Sorry, comment time is over.
