TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Friday updates & road-work notes

(Four WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
Good morning and happy Friday! We start with project notes:

47TH/ADMIRAL SIGNAL: Concrete pouring could start on the south side of the intersection today, for new curbs and sidewalk, if the weather doesn’t interfere. The detailed update is here.

DELRIDGE/ORCHARD PROJECT UPDATE: In case you missed it – we published an update from Seattle Public Utilities, including added traffic effects at Myrtle next week.

And a transportation-news note:

LIGHT RAIL FOR WEST SEATTLE? After its Thursday board meeting, Sound Transit explained what’s next (“major public-involvement effort”) for its work toward the next ballot measure.

9:59 AM: If you’re headed toward 1st through SODO, you might try 4th instead, because of this:

4:33 PM NOTE: SPU has e-mailed to say the Delridge/Orchard/Myrtle work mentioned earlier has been moved up: “The lane restriction on SW Myrtle St. at 24th Ave. SW has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29 (as opposed to 4/29 and 4/30, as previously announced).”

This I do know. It’s time for light rail into West Seattle. It needs to go through West Seattle whatever way possible. Perhaps up Delridge with a couple of massive park and ride’s and transfer station’s for quick bus service, continuing through White Center, and Burien and hooking up with the current line at Sea-Tac. What are we waiting for???? Delridge eliminates the fear of the hills and need for tunnels.

Sdot camera at sr 99 at Lander shows collision in left lane. Any more info yet?

AAD – it cleared relatively quickly thanks to WSDOT crews. Didn’t even hit the 911 log. But there’s a problem on 1st in SODO now for people who take the parallel route …

Lander is closed between Occidental & 1st. 1st is partially closed at Lander, and the 1800’s 3-story “farmhouse” shaped building on the corner is burning. It’s been a fire hazard for years, with the entire 3rd floor packed full of building materials and the roof falling down on the 2nd floor on the Lander side.

That old barn at 1st and Lander caught fire. Pretty large response. It used to be ‘Second Use’. Traffic is being re-routed to go up Lander to 4th if going northbound on 1st Ave. S.

TV News mentioned (and showed) that fighting this fire was somewhat hampered by a car being parked smack dab in front of a fire hydrant.

I agree on the obvious need for light rail. Usually well run cities build light rail before pushing density limits, but in typical Seattle fashion we are doing it backward.

I understand many republicans are against light rail (or, any type of progress), but it needs to be built as soon as possible.

Sorry, comment time is over.
