West Seattle Crime Watch: Stolen car found, 3 teens arrested

A commenter mentioned this earlier – and now details are on SPD Blotter:

Officers responded to calls of street racing in West Seattle Saturday and arrested three teens for auto theft.

A witness called police at 7:45 Saturday morning and reported street racing followed by suspicious behavior around a car in the 5400 block of 34 Ave. SW. Officers quickly arrived and saw three teen boys run from a car in the area. An officer checked the car and found the steering column, instrument panel, and other parts of the car either damaged or removed. Other officers flooded the area and located the teenagers a few blocks away. While talking to and searching the boys, an officer found a shaved key, used for stealing cars, on one of the teens.

A fourth teen, who stayed at the original scene in another car, allowed officers to search his vehicle. Officers found several car parts from the damaged vehicle inside the trunk of the teen’s car.

The owner of the damaged car called police and confirmed that his car had just been stolen.

Officers arrested and booked the three teens who ran into the King County Youth Service Center, while the fourth teen who stayed behind was released to his parents.

Pathetic. People like this (in this case youth) are useless in society. They have no respect for anyone but themselves. Why was the one that stayed behind released to his parents? He had stolen car parts in his car. This is why these youth do this, there is absolutely NO penalty.
    .
Put a lien on the parents mortgages if they have one, send collection agencies to repay the victim for their losses.

Put a lien on the parents mortgages? That’s an idiotic idea. Some of the most conscientious parents have kids in juvy and in trouble with the law at no blame to their parenting. So why punish them?
Go after the teens when they get their own paychecks, now that may work.

Seattle must be relatively crime free if car theft gets coverage i live in london and violent crime barely gets a mention

Yes, we are relatively low on violent crime. Property crime is our biggest problem – and here at the neighborhood-news level, we try to get the word out when we get word of stolen cars and bicycles, burglaries, etc. – Tracy

With all due respect, and that is a lot of respect. Property crime becomes violent crime when a bunch of punks injure people racing stolen cars, while shoplifting, shaking down a kid for money, etc. It is all bad, and property crime is only one false move from violence.
