Seattle Farm School to launch in Delridge; needs ‘home arts’ teachers

Another new venture just announced: Seattle Farm School, founded by West Seattleite Katie Stemp, who is looking for teachers to be part of it. She explains, “We are dedicated to preserving the home arts and growing our community in sustainable practices through affordable classes. We are going to be starting classes in mid November at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center (same location as the Tool Library) on Delridge, just south of the bridge. I’m gathering teachers from our community who are skilled in the following subjects and interested in teaching one or many classes with us. Here are the subjects that I am looking for people who have experience and are willing to teach:”

Thank you. I am qualified to teach many of the home arts and am planning to return to living in Washington. I have a wealth of materials to share as well as decades of experience.

There is no city called “DELRIDGE” it’s West Seattle. There’s a history over here of making sure things are segregated and oh that’s not west Seattle. ummm yes it is and you shouldn’t be reporting like it’s another city.

Fwoshh, we refer to *neighborhood* names all the time and have been a loud and proud “one West Seattle” voice around here during our seven years of doing this. West Seattle is the sum of many neighborhoods, including Delridge, from Elliott Bay to the Duwamish River to open Puget Sound to the city limits on the south. The city itself, unfortunately (in our view), bisects West Seattle into two “districts” – Delridge and Southwest – and so in many cases administers it that way (district councils, etc., and yes, we know there are those who consider it a good thing – double the access to city grants, etc., but I digress), and speaks of Delridge as if it is separate. Not us! – Tracy

Would you consider having mother/ daughter – or parent/kid- classes?!

  • The Smiths October 15, 2014 (8:29 pm)

Oh my goodness! This sounds like so much fun! We have been gardening, raising our own meat animals, sewing clothes, and hand crafting Christmas gifts for years as a family! We are SO excited to welcome the Seattle Farm School to our neighborhood! We were going to start up with the 4H club in Wallingford this year, but may put our dues towards classes here instead. Hooray!
