wswllicon3.pngThe 1st birthday/anniversary (whichever you prefer) celebration for the Duwamish Longhouse is all day tomorrow – and that’s one of the weekend highlights. The West Seattle Eagles‘ concert to raise money for Haiti relief is also happening this weekend – doors open @ 8 Saturday at their aerie in The Junction – and their counterparts in White Center are having a benefit breakfast on Sunday. There are also three school open houses, a West Seattle Wildlife Habitat Project work party, the South Seattle Community College (WSB sponsor) “Gifts from the Earth” fundraiser, and TONS more: From tonight through Sunday night, more than 50 events/activities, brought to you by Skylark Cafe and Club, where you’ll find FREE live music and rockin’ food – like the special Valentine brunch and dinner deals just announced:

*The West Seattle Wildlife Habitat Project needs your help to finish planting the Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Garden at Seacrest Park!* Our goals are to tackle the rest of the weeds, install a weed barrier, and put the rest of our plants in the ground along the boatyard fenceline. All tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gloves or favorite tools. We are very pleased with the results of the last work party and anticipate our human and wildlife neighbors will enjoy the garden too!

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: The public is invited to attend a farewell reception from 2:30 to 4 pm Saturday, Jan. 30, to honor the 20 years that Karen Spiel has served as manager of the West Seattle branch of the Seattle Public Library. The community-sponsored reception will be held at the branch, 2306 42nd Ave. SW. Refreshments will be served, and a brief program will begin about 3 p.m. Spiel has been promoted to manage eight library branches in Central Seattle. A longtime West Seattle resident, Spiel has managed the West Seattle branch since 1990. For five years of that 20-year span, she also supervised the Delridge branch.
