4 reader reports: Stolen motorcycle; found bicycles; car prowl

Four reader reports to share – we’re not calling them all Crime Watch because the bicycles might not be stolen, but often when found in circumstances like these, they are. First, have you seen Nyle‘s stolen motorcycle?

My motorcycle was stolen out of apartment parking garage on upper Avalon Way between midnight and 8am on 9/3/14. 1999 Red Honda CBR 600 F4. Plate #690065. Police called and report filed. Keep your eyes open!

FOUND BICYCLE #1: Christine and Jeff both sent photos and word of this bicycle that’s been up against a signpost in Morgan Junction for a few days:

Christine described it as “a pink and purple Magna Misty bike with a few iridescent streamers on the handlebars.”

FOUND BICYCLE #2: Dana found this one, described as a purple girl’s Specialized Hotrock:

We’ve advised the bicycles’ finders to report them to police, but do comment if you know whose they are.

CAR PROWL: From Sarah:

My car was broken into again some time between 11:30 pm 9/2 and when I went out again this afternoon 12:30 pm 9/3. Police report has been filed, but I want to warn neighbors. My car was locked up tight abd all doors were unlocked, including the hatch, which requires a key, so I think they may have one of the Subaru dummy keys. It was an older Subaru Legacy Wagon (1992) and the only thing I noticed missing besides the cell phone charger was some loose change. This happened on the 7700 block of 31st Ave SW.

On 8-31-14 at 5pm, my backpack was stolen out of the trunk of my car. The car was parked in the alley behind my house on 64th AVE SW, the trunk was open as I was unloading, and I left it for about 90 seconds. Shocked at the brazen theft, it was broad daylight and plenty of neighbors around. The backpack is a black and yellow Northface and had my Canon digital camera and extra lens. There was also some paper work and architectural drawings inside. This use to be a safe neighborhood, but thefts seem to have been increasing recently…

I’ll keep an eye out for your motorcycle Nyle. I ride everyday and like all the other riders in WS are always glancing at all the bikes we see around taking notes of model and rider. I’ll focus on red CBRs. Hope you get it back soon.

Nyle, I’ve noticed motorcycles being stolen lately too in West Seattle. Did your bike have ignition and/or “steer lock”, and did you have that engaged when parking it? I’m curious as it would indicate the thief or thieves would not have been able to steer it away and would have had to literally “lift” it to transport it, indicating most likely more than one thief. Also possibly indicating they’d been casing it to organize a plan as it is awkward and heavy if they knew it was unsteerable. Unless the thief used a hydraulic lift, ie tow truck driver. We should start including those details to document a possible M.O. of motorcycle thieves in this area.

Nyle-There are rows and rows of Ninja/Honda CBR type bikes lined up many times down at Alki north of the public restroom on the beach. Many of those riders know eachother and stick and ride together. Maybe post several flyers with a photo so the bikers down there will keep their eye out for your beautiful bike, at the restaurants down there. Those riders will have their “ears” in the pipeline, ie facebook etc and the word will spread fast.

Comprehensive insurance coverage with a low deductible is a MUST if you live in WS. Or, anywhere, really.

Sorry, comment time is over.
