Update: Two police responses tonight, Junction & Highland Park

Lots of questions about two sizable police responses tonight. Here’s what we have found out:

(WSB photo by Christopher Boffoli)
The response this past half-hour at California and Oregon in The Junction came in as a possible shooting, but that turned out NOT to be the case, according to Southwest Precinct Lt. Paul Leung, who says one person suffered minor injuries. WSB’s Christopher Boffoli reports from the scene that it’s a possible case of assault.

Earlier this evening, 9th/Highland Park Way was closed for a while; that was because of a major police response related to an armed robbery at an area business, Lt. Leung says. The suspect was seen going into another business; police converged, guns drawn, and arrested him.

SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE ON HIGHLAND PARK HOLDUP: SPD has just released more information on the Highland Park robbery – saying the robber held up the 16th/Holden 7-11 and then went to another mini-mart to buy lottery tickets with the proceeds.

What time did the west Seattle crime happen. Is every one ok?

    • WSB June 21, 2014 (2:34 am)

Both incidents were in West Seattle. The Junction one was just after 10:30; the person had minor injuries. The Highland Park one didn’t involve any injuries that I know of. Don’t know what time it happened – we heard about the temporary road closure around 7-ish. Lot of details missing on both but Friday night is the worst night of the week to try to get info, so I don’t expect to be able to fill in the blanks until the reports are available through the media office on Monday. – Tracy

Those guys at the 7-11 have always been so nice (to me, anyway). I hope the robbery wasn’t too traumatic to them, glad the suspect(s) were caught.

I’ve seen blue and white police cars plenty of times, and have seen them turn on the blue and white lights on their cars to indicate that something is going on, but this is the first time I’ve seen the police use a blue and white lighted sign to indicate that a police “chase” is occurring. Very effective! Its nice to see them embracing technology.

Don’t think we’ve seen that … will ask SPD about it, sounds like an interesting story or side note. Thanks for mentioning.

starsky, no cop at QFC when I was there, I left just in time to see every SPD unit zooming to the scene of this crime.

  • starsky June 22, 2014 (11:27 am)

The cop is only there during the day.

My son and I were just leaving the 7-11 parking lot and we saw a person in a black hoodie, pulled down over his head and black sunglasses. I pulled out of the parking lot and wondered if there was something stange going on. I wish I would have pulled back in the lot and called 9-1-1. Next time, I will not hesitate.

    what does: ‘4RED – 2 + 1 + 1’ mean?

heard lots and lots of sirens last night, around 9:30 and according to the real time 911 log, that’s what it was: is that an aid call? an assault call ? a fire call?

    this:

doesn’t really help explain what is/ was going on.

    • WSB June 23, 2014 (9:11 am)

I don’t know what the nature of that call was (but am asking SFD today). Usually it’s something – not medical, but fire or safety related – that requires a bigger response but not a fullblown “fire in building/house” type response, or it might have been quickly reduced from something that started as one of those. – TR
