West Seattle Weekend Lineup: “WS help for Haiti” edition

wswllicon3.pngFundraisers for Haiti earthquake relief are high on the weekend list this time around, including cash/check donations accepted at tonight’s free Seattle Symphony concert presented by the West Seattle Kiwanis, a car wash (rain or shine) at Keller Williams in The Junction on Saturday, WSUU soup lunch and “Dogs for Docs” at Beveridge Place Pub on Sunday (silent auction/raffle items needed), ongoing checkstand donations at West Seattle Thriftway, and more. As the weekend goes on, there are also music, dance, art and nature events – just the start of what’s up tonight through Sunday night – more than 40 events/activities in all, brought to you by Skylark Cafe and Club, where you’ll find FREE live music and rockin’ food:

SATURDAY AFTERNOON-EVENING: Up in the Air: A Juggler’s Tale of Circus and Invention. A young juggler moves to a small town, only to find it divided by a rivalry. Watch as he throws caution (and juggling clubs) to the wind in order to bring the town back together in a story told through the combination of circus arts and theatre. This show is created and performed by the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts Youth Company. 2 and 7 pm, one day only. Tickets available online.

Meet coaches Rhae Shaw, Tom Roseberry, Michelle Ohlson and others. Rhae Shaw’s talk “My Breakout Season” will be the featured event of the evening.
Local triathlete Rhae Shaw was the third amateur finisher at the 2009 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii with a personal best finishing time of 10:02. On her way to her podium finish she posted the the fastest amateur bike split of the day (5:15) for the 112 mile ride and set a PR for her Ironman marathon. Her breakthrough season included impressive first place amateur finishes at both the Canadian 1/2 Ironman National Championships and Hawaii 70.3, setting bike course records in each.
