West Seattle Crime Watch: Lincoln Park robbery arrest; more

A brand-new update on SPD Blotter answers some questions we’d been looking into involving police presence at and near Lincoln Park late last night. Police responding to a report of some kind of fight in the park around 11 pm found a teenager who said another teen had stolen his phone. They found and arrested a suspect – and recovered the stolen phone – on a bus south of the park. Read the full summary on SPD Blotter.

One other Crime Watch report in queue: Another North Admiral car prowl this week; the victim, who didn’t want her name to be published, said, “Our vehicle’s window was broken (Wednesday night). We heard a loud sound around 9:30 pm and saw a white commercial van with blue lettering driving away. We didn’t think anything of it and then discovered the broken window (in the) morning. Nothing was stolen.” (One more reminder: Even if nothing’s taken, even if there’s no damage, police say, please report car prowls! You can even do that online.)

Wow! It’s amazing that the police responded so quickly and caught the suspect. Too bad they can’t react that fast in the Westwood area after someone gets stabbed.

@AmandaK – the police did respond very quickly to the scene of the Westwood area stabbing.
    .
I do understand how rattled you must be to have a crime like this happen in your area. Several officers did search the area for the suspects. Unlike the above Lincoln Park incident, the perps didn’t stick around the scene.

I just don’t get it. What is with people robbing others for a phone. The man in greenwood was killed for a stupid phone. The moron with the gun on the bus was ready to kill another for a phone! Can someone explain this to me?

Morgan – because there are quick easy ways to fence phones. I hadn’t heard about this until it came up in connection with the RapidRide robberies – part of the evidence against the robber is that he was caught on camera at one of these kiosks.

Perhaps the victim had a tracking app on his phone to find where the perp was. Either that or the police got lucky that this perp didn’t have any better plan other than to “escape” on the C-line. I am getting awfully tired of Metro serving as the official West Seattle criminal transport system.
    .
Unfortunately, he was probably headed to Westwood to create more havoc. It is time Metro started having some security on the C-line.

My sons iphone4s was stolen by his counselor at Hiawatha Community center a couple years back. I even had phone numbers that were called after and SPD didn’t even follow up on it after I filed a report. With a warrant the phones can be tracked. But the phone companies cannot give you it’s location w/out a warrant. Total BS! An iPhone is worth 500-800 bucks! That’s a lot of money to just let people get away with stealing it. I bought a running car last year for 700 bucks. It would be a felony to steal that car, but nothing happens to phone theives.

on capital hill about a year or so ago…there was a federal prosecutor who had his home broken into. they took his phone and other stuff. there was a story on the news about how his young son helped the police catch the people using the GPS on the phone….so maybe if you work for the FEDS it’s a priority and if you don’t work for the FEDS then best of luck to you and thanks for calling 911.

With all due respect Mookie. If you were one of the responding officers in Westwood that night, I would accept the story that these two incidents were treated exactly the same. It seems to me that living on this side of Barton, our 911 calls are treated just a little bit different than on the other side of Barton.

And rattled is not even an accurate term. I am royally PO’ed. We had a murder on NYE – what’s the status of that? We had a brutal rape just last month. And now this. Not to mention all the beatings, stabbing and knife pulling in the Westwood Village / Roxhill Park area. If the police are serious about stopping these incidents, I would like them to put their “money where their mouth is”. How about some foot patrols? Regular sweeps? I feel like I am going crazy with how many times I have been on the freaking news about crime in the area. This is bonkers. Totally bonkers. If the criminals are getting away with their crimes – then there is nothing to stop them.

The report did show up on the Seattle Police Blotter. Apparently the victim gave a good enough description that officers did see the right group of kids boarding the bus. It would be interesting to know if these were local hoodlums or hoodlums brought in by Metro to victimize our citizens.

Thanks, Eric, that’s the same thing our report is based on (see the lead line, and the link) …

Ouch. My bad for not reading carefully.

Scum will target your cell phone because they can sell them very easily … on ebay … at pawn shops … at pie sales (typically not hidden inside the pie!).

Stolen cell phones are HOT items … $100-$500!!!

Be aware of your surroundings, especially bus stops, sitting on buses, sleeping on benches … it happens quickly & your phone is gone … do not sleep on benches, double check the pies you eat for hidden cell phones.

My daughters phone was stolen out of Ambercrombie dressing room and the manager refused to let us look at the security footage to see who did it, the phone was never recovered and we weren’t able to track it as it was never turned on!
There is a cell phone kiosk in Northgate mall that you can sell a cell phone at and receive cash on the spot! There is usually a line of creepy looking teens all waiting to drop a cell phone in for cash!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
