West Seattle Crime Watch update: Business burglarized, 1 arrested

SATURDAY, 1:20 AM: Happening now in east Fauntleroy, information via scanner: Police are searching for one or more people who broke into Super Deli Mart at 35th/Barton a short time ago. Someone called 911 to say they thought they saw intruders stealing merchandise; police arrived moments later and reported a smashed window, with a cash register believed to be missing as well. Possible suspect description: White male, 30s, blue jacket, blue jeans.

SUNDAY, 11:39 AM: We asked SPD media relations if there had indeed been an arrest. And yes, there was – they’ve just posted a short note on SPD Blotter; the K-9 team found the 23-year-old suspect in the 9200 block of 35th SW.

Man, what self entitled POS!! Sounds like there wasn’t an alarm since it was call from someone that tipped police.

Either the thieves were super quick or the person caught the tail end of the robbery or the cops took too much time to get there.

That maybe possible since I called the police on someone suspicious a couple of blocks from thee deli a couple of years ago and it took about 10 minutes for the police to arrive. I actually called 911 back because I thought I might have given the wrong address.

I followed this person, but when he started running through people’s yards, I lost him. Turns out that same day a neighbor’s house was broken into. I was disappointed in the police response, because at the time there was a rash of burglaries in Westwood and the description of the person I reported matched a couple of descriptions given of the burglar from witnesses. White, 30’s un-kept brown hair and a beard.

Eric – I was listening to the scanner. They were there within a couple minutes of dispatch. Containment was set up too. There might have been an arrest – again, I have only scanner communication to go by – but I mightnot be able to confirm that until Monday. – TR

Im in there all the time. I hope there was an arrest. This guy as probably even been a “customer” there too at some point. Cameras are installed everywhere inside that place, so I can’t wait for an update.

Probably someone from that crime infested bus transfer station east a few blocks by Westwood Village. That station has brought violence, stabbings, and other crime right in to our neighborhood.

@John — yea, it must be one of those degenerate poor people that have the nerve to get around via the only method of transportation they can afford.

I hear some criminals even drive cars now!!! What’s the world coming to???

Actually, the DeliMart has brought more disruption and crime into the neighborhood than the bus transfer stop. The public just doesn’t hear about it.

Uh, those of us who have lived in this area for over 20 years have seen a SUDDEN increase in violent and property crimes since the new Westwood Village bus transfer station arrived. It’s easy for someone miles away to criticize us for loathing that new cancerous tumor of a bus station in our backyards. Crime will be coming your way someday due to our mindless city/county “planners”, too.

I work near the Westwood bus stop. I’m also one of those “poor” people who rides the bus as my only option. The WW bus stop is a huge problem for properties nearby. Crime has exploded, but it’s not because of people riding the bus to work. It’s because there is a park and a shopping center at the end of the line, providing lots of opportunities for transient criminal behavior. There is someone matching the description of this burglar who lives in the park, and leaves lots of debris from shoplifted food.

@Gyngersnap- You HAVE to be kidding. Name one crime related story that came from Deli Mart? Also, the guy arrested from breaking in the deli was a new employee who has been there less than two weeks.
Ive been going there for over 20 years and have YET to see police respond to crime there. The owners there are super nice and the people that go there after work for beers are for the most part local residents who own their own homes.
You sound to me just a anti Deli Mart person trying to make waves and make people think twice about going there.

Long Live Deli Mart and Bus ridership!

Sorry, comment time is over.
