West Seattle Crime Watch: 16th/Holden response; stolen car to look for; plus, Bellevue SWAT

We’re at the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting right now – look for the wrapup later. Two things to report right now:

WONDERED WHAT WAS UP AT 16TH/HOLDEN TONIGHT? Big police response there around 6 pm – couldn’t find out anything at the time, but we asked Southwest Precinct Operations Lt. Ron Smith here at the WSCPC meeting. He says it was an operation involving Bellevue Police and a suspect who lives in West Seattle – and when they made a request for assistance from SPD, it was misinterpreted as a “help the officer” call, which means “everybody rush there, an officer’s in trouble.” So there was a big but not-needed response for a bit. We’ll be checking with Bellevue PD tomorrow to see if they can tell us more about what they’re doing over here – we do recall a case or two in the past.

(added, 10:56 pm) BELLEVUE POLICE IN HIGHLAND PARK AGAIN: We won’t be able to find out until tomorrow if this was related, but not far from 16th/Holden, the Bellevue SWAT team served a warrant tonight:

One of the people who tipped us e-mailed about seeing that van go by around 9:30: “They stopped between the 7200/7400 block of 16th Ave SW (west side) … lights on … SWAT team in motion. We heard, “police search warrant, open up” (several times). 10 minutes later we still heard those same police requests (have to assume backup was also on the west side of this house).” Might just be a coincidence, but this is the same general vicinity where Bellevue Police made an ID-theft bust last year.

(back to original report) STOLEN CAR: Ashley reports, “My car was stolen from my driveway last night between midnight and 6 am. 6300 block of 42nd Ave SW. It is a white Hyundai Tucson. Michigan plates. 1FRN69. I already reported it to police, but I thought other people might be able to help as well.” Call 911 if you see it.

I’m in white center, this helicopter been flying over the old Albertsons supermarket for over 20 mins. This is the king county side, not Seattle.

Is it common practice to serve a warrant with a SWAT truck?

  • westsidemegan March 19, 2014 (10:46 am)

    I was wondering what the commotion at 16th and Holden was all about and I also wondered why earlier in the day a Bellevue PD car was spotted in the area as well. I sure hope you can find out more info as this warrant was served only a block and a half from me. Thanks WSB for always getting the info we need as a community! ;-}

WSM – I expect more info later from Bellevue PD; the PIO was awaiting a briefing when I pinged her this morning – TR

Regarding the SWAT team on 16th, the house changed occupants about 10 days/2 weeks ago … inside the fence you could see trash everywhere, hard to believe people could live like that.

For the past several months I’ve noticed lots of “quick comings & goings” … cars “live parked” with 1 or 2 guys going in & the driver remaining in the car, everyone gone w/in 5-10 minutes.

Maybe they’re stopping in for lemonade & cookies but I kinda doubt it. There’s another house very close that has similar “activity” … the police have been made aware.

I watched the SWAT vehicle & trailing cruiser go up the hill southbound on 16th (at Othello), whisper quiet, 2 or 3 cops in SWAT gear standing on the rear bumper as it approached … within seconds all hell broke lose … a very surreal moment.

I live nearby & I keep my eyes & ears on constant alert … & I have zero problem with calling 911 when I see something fishy.

Drah – Sorry I don’t have the promised update; Bellevue PD finally got back to me late today and promised to get me info tomorrow morning – TR

Why is it or does it seem anytime the cops come to this very house on 16th that no one is ever there so it seems or if they do haul anyone off to jail everyone is right back out and back to business as usual within a couple of days. I am talking cars coming and going 24/7 several different cars from a ford ranger to a little red sport car with black and white checkers and a 4runner, mini van and even a bmw and several others.

Talk about the trash yes plenty of trash in the yard that I can see everyday when I walk past on my way to get the bus to work a couple times each day. I live a few doors down and I do have a good idea of the things that go on in this very neighborhood.

Thanks for being the neighborhood Watchdog!!!

I myself live very close by to this house of the SWAT BUST and do see may cars of all types lining the street on both sides that come and go on a daily basis at all hours that I am awake and up. I think the city should condemn this house and arrest the owner who rents this place out to her criminal family. I don’t think anyone actually does lives at this house and it’s used just for criminal activity and a black market meeting spot of some kind and what is sad is we have several good hard working family homes with children very close by who should get to live a no worry life of peace.

I have been living here for the past almost 54 years and have about had it with this area and all the comings and goings and SWAT TEAM BUSTS. I know everyone who lives close to these bad guys and they’ve all about had it with these small time trashy crooks and junky never ending stream of cars that come and go.

Another thing I could give a sh*t less what people do in their own darn homes as long as I don’t always see or hear of cops outside and see trash all over the place.

Shoot, I wish I would have seen this earlier. I think I saw your car today.

Did your Hundai have a car seat in the back? There was a white Hundai, didn’t notice what state plates were from, that appeared to have been ditched with the driver’s door open at 14th S.W. and Barton today. It was towed away at about 6:30 p.m.

I called the police at 3 p.m. thinking it was a car prowl because the door was hanging open, but was told nothing could be done if it wasn’t my car to report. Upon closer inspection after that with neighbors we realized that it had probably been stolen, and one of my neighbors called the police again with the plate number and a description of how it was parked oddly half on the curb. We weren’t able to close the driver’s door, it seemed to be bent/stuck open for some reason.

If it was yours, other than the door it appeared to be in good shape, and I hope you get it back all fixed up soon.

Sorry, comment time is over.
