West Seattle Crime Watch: Frosty the Snowman stolen; 6 other cases

Wide-ranging West Seattle Crime Watch reader-report roundup today:

DENTAL BURGLARIES: From Tanya:

Two Dental offices were broken into last night, sometime after 9:00. Dr. Sorensen’s and Dr. Joon Kae’s office (Kae Dental). The offices are located in the Dakota building at 4116 California Ave Sw. The thieves gained access through the parking garage in the back of the offices. Dental instruments, intra oral camera, cash, stamps, keys, and sonicares to name a few items. I just wanted to let you know and to see if potentially anyone saw anything.

CLIENT GIFTS STOLEN FROM CAR: From Rob:

I had my Jeep broken into last night and the thieves took off with about 50 small wrapped boxes (silver wrapping) with my client thank you gifts. They were just coffee travel mugs with my logo on them…so no value to the thief, but I would still like to give them away if I could recover them. Wonder if there is a way to put out there for someone to contact me if they find them in a trash dumpster…which is what I would guess they would be put since they have no value to the thief.

Rob’s business is West Seattle Mortgage, so look for that logo and let him or police know if you have spotted any of these items.

CHILD’S BICYCLE STOLEN: From Cailey:

My 12 year old brother had his new mountain bike stolen from our secure fenced back yard on Alki Avenue. The Bike was a “Specialized” Mountain Bike; grey with black handlebars and seat, and silver shocks. My brother and parents noticed it was missing (Sunday). This is really upsetting to all of us because this bike was bought by my brother a few months ago after saving all his lawn mowing and lemonade stand money for the entire summer. This bike was a replacement bike for another bike that was also stolen from our yard last year. My younger brother doesn’t understand why anyone would steal from our back yard feel that they can get away with it. If anyone has anyone information about this bike please let us know through email at cadullum2@gmail.com. This is the holiday time and my younger brother would have the best Christmas if his bike was returned.

Ahead – four more cases, two with video, including thieves making off with Frosty the Snowman, and mail prowlers caught on camera:

FROSTY THIEF ON VIDEO: From a Highland Park family:

This morning we discovered that Frosty the Snowman was missing from our yard. We reviewed our security camera and although foggy and grainy we were sad to see that one person on a bicycle traveling with another person on a bicycle stopped got off their bike walked up into our yard and stole Frosty. The thieves are on the naughty list now becuase Santa was plugged in right next to Frosty and watched in horror as his friend was carted off.

The thieves come into frame at 1:26 in the video.

If we can re-code that to have it start at that point, we will – until then, please grab and drag the playbar to get to that point.

MAIL PROWLERS ON VIDEO: Carolyn has captured mail prowlers on camera before and published it via the WSB Forums – now, a new clip, with the would-be thieves appearing right before :30:

Look familiar? Let police know.

CASING? This note came in around midday and has since been posted in comments on the site – a possible case of casing. Details here.

ALKI CAR PROWL: A holdover from the weekend that we just rediscovered in the mailbox (sorry) – from LB:

wanted to let you know about a car prowl at Alki Beach at 57th Ave SW. I had a car prowler rummage through my 1997 Honda Accord sedan sometime between Tue 12/10/13 at 5p and today 12/13/13 12:15p. My car was parked in its assigned space in the lot behind Shoremont Apts, which sits next to the alley running between 57th Ave SW and 56th Ave SW. Both the glove compartment and the arm console were dumped out into the passenger seat. The coin holder was left open on the dash. Nothing was stolen – I don’t keep anything valuable in my car, anyway. No exterior or interior damage that I could see, everything snapped-back or was put back into place. I reported the incident to SPD.

A reminder to be sure to report car prowls to police, even if nothing was taken – they need to be able to track where this is happening.

Anytime the thieves need anything they just come on over to W.S. and get it. Just like going to the store. :(

So sorry to learn of the dental break-ins, stupid thieves!

Sunny 206…I’m pretty sure other neighborhoods will say the same thing.

Things stolen from cars – if you value it at all, take it with you. Don’t leave whatever it is in the car – it simply is an invitation , saying”Take me now, please”.

I’m so sorry these happened. Hope things get recovered soon.

    1) Seems to me that the POS who stole Frosty had a pretty large bag of “stuff”. I’m sure Frosty wasn’t his only stop along the way. I’m pretty much guessing that these (people) roaming around at 4:00 in the morning are up to NO good.

    2) The AH who prowled the mail box is fairly stupid, given his look and the make/model of his car. He won’t be hard to find.

i agree with Sunny 206. I lived in WS from 1970-1992 and i was the victim of a litany of stolen items, from my car to my mailbox. It appears not much has changed. However i still miss WS and feel it is the best place to live in Seattle.

Regarding the mail prowlers & Carolyn, the branches should be trimmed in front of the mailboxes. Too bad, you would’ve have a great picture of his face!

We went out and cut the branches after we saw the video!

Our mail was stolen this week as well from the Lincoln Park area. :(

I have a Hunger Games fantasy. I imagine taking all these parasites to a island or piece of land with extremely limited resources, cars, bikes, easy prey like snowmen, mail and packages and letting them all work it out for among themselves for survival, the one piece of mail, snowman, bicycle to purchase the limited housing, food. Let em take it out of each other. Why should we have to be involved in their thievery. There are enough of them to steal from each other. It’s all a game to them anyway.

The best thing about the mail theft video — notice the one thing he didn’t touch — the locked mailbox. Exact same model we have. Big enough to take in small Amazon packages. Not having one is like leaving steak on your steps and crossing your fingers that no coons, coyotes or dogs come to get it. Those mailboxes aren’t expensive and they’re easy to install. OK, we had a handy woman, Amyworks, install ours, but that’s just because we needed to cement the post. I bought and installed the same model at our former house.

Sorry, comment time is over.
