West Seattle Weather/Traffic Watch: Saturday evening updates

5:58 PM: We’re launching an evening update for weather/traffic related problems – starting with another crash on the northbound Alaskan Way Viaduct – so once again, avoid northbound 99!

6:05 PM: Added “live” image from traffic cam on northbound 99 – showing gridlock right now. Meantime, from our earlier coverage – the tree across 35th SW at 108th is cleared. Going to check shortly on other blockages reported earlier. Keeping an eye on City Light outage map – so far in West Seattle, only two reported, each listed as one customer (let us know if you know of any NOT on the map). 206-293-6302 text/voice for any weather problems or other breaking news.

6:09 PM: Via scanner, hearing of a tree vs. pole/lines problem on California Way near Hamilton Viewpoint Park.

7:16 PM: Just back from going out to check on a few things. The tree is cleared from California Way, so no problem going up or down the hill between Hamilton Viewpoint and Seacrest. Adding a photo of the big pothole reported earlier on Delridge near Oregon – northbound lane, parallel with Southwest Youth and Family Services. It’s right in the middle of the vehicle lane, not that well lit, with a trash can “marking” it along with a couple cones – you’ll have to use the center lane to get around:

And from the “live” image above, it looks like the 99 problem is clear. Storm’s calmed a bit, for now.

11:52 PM NOTE: The alert for tomorrow hasn’t changed, in case you were wondering – along with the general forecast for rain (increasing again Sunday in the daytime), a “high wind watch” in effect 3 pm Sunday-3 am Monday.

No choice; police have now blocked off the NB 99 exit from the bridge.

Have been sitting in it for over 1/2 hour. Attempted to reach radio stations to alert. Thank you WSB for steering others in a better direction.

Just drove on 99 Sb and yeah the backup going Nb is unbelievable. It goes well beyond the west seattle exit. People are standing outside their cars. Dead stopped.

That pot hole at Delridge/Oregon has been a problem for ages. Not surprised it’s just gotten worse.

Those of us that use the road regularly already avoid in out of habit.

I hit this pothole today going down delridge today, it was a bad one. Nothing was around it when I went by and it was un-avoidable. Glad to see they have cones up around it now.

Thank you to whom ever plopped the garbage can and traffic cones around and over the pot hole! No doubt it was a local action, improvised during the deluge.

If anyone had damage to their vehicle from hitting that pothole, be sure to file a claim with the city for reimbursement. That looks to be a prior pothole fix that failed to work. It is the cities liability and their required to pay for any repairs needed due to a car or truck being damaged by potholes that they’ve had reported or that have been filled and failed to hold. File the claim. They’ll try to deny your claim, go back to them after they do. Hire a lawyer if you need to.

I’m tired of the disrepair of our roads and misuse of funds for our road repairs.

The pothole on Delridge was unmarked this morning at 9:30 am! This was after I saw it marked yesterday night. I hit the edge of it and that was bad enough.

It needs to be marked again!

The hole on Del Way near Oregon and Alaska is a result of the construction of the microhousing units. Builder had to cut into the street for utility hookups. Crappy temporary patch job resulted in many people getting flats, lost hubs and at least one car had to be towed. I think I saw PSE out there on Monday trying to fix the hole. I’d go after or sue them for damages, or the builder, not the City, which is like suing yourself.

Sorry, comment time is over.
