That’s Bessie, who – you probably won’t be surprised to hear – belongs to the Washington Dairy Farmers. She’s out moo-ving around local waterways again this weekend.

Bessie Update: They did a U-turn at Alki point and now she’s headed back toward Elliott bay. She gets around!
And out of sheer curiosity, what is the point of this exercise? Barges and tug boats are not free, someone is paying a hefty heifer charge for this.
As noted, it’s a promotion – aka advertising – for and by the Washington Dairy Farmers, whose website the link above takes you to. Boilerplate from her last tour a month ago: “Bessie is meant to represent the huge economic impact of dairy farming on Washington State, creating more than 18,000 jobs and generating overall annual income of nearly $6 billion.”
And also generating a large volume of waste and negative environmental impact in the process. How udderly appropriate for a WDF advertising campaign.
