WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Masked confetti-gun-wielding attacker injures woman, and 3 other reports

In West Seattle Crime Watch:

WOMAN INJURED BY MASKED ATTACKER WITH CONFETTI GUN: Thanks to Kim for the tip on this and the photo. We didn’t make it to Westwood Village while this was unfolding but obtained the police report today. A 35-year-old man is in King County Jail today after being arrested Tuesday afternoon for investigation of assault. Police say he was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and “soccer shin plate armor (plastic), with other various plastic armor plating underneath everyday clothing,” while walking on the east side of Westwood Village shooting people with a confetti gun. Seattle Fire checked one woman for minor injuries after she reported being hit in the eye. This was the suspect’s fourth booking in less than a year.

SIGNATURE SQUABBLE: Sorry to say, SPD tells us no report resulted from another Tuesday afternoon incident we briefly, and popularly, mentioned on Twitter, after hearing about it on the scanner:

The few lines in the SPD system say that a “petitioner” – it was not specified which campaign they were gathering for – was arguing with people, and the manager called police, who said the person could be “trespassed” (required to leave, and stay off the premises) if the situation persisted. Officers left and a while later, there was another call, but the manager called back and canceled before they arrived.

Two reader reports:

PLAGUED BY PACKAGE THEFTS: Kelli at Zippy Dogs in north Morgan Junction writes:

We are located over in the 6000 block on California Ave between Graham and Raymond streets. Our townhomes and businesses are having packages stolen on a very regular basis. The pictures show their faces, body type, build. White male, 20’s, heavy tattoos, he wears beanies and cap, sometimes has backpack. White female, 20’s, longish brown hair, she seems to be the lookout and he grabs packages. She helps carry the loot.

(Monday) they were carrying 3 bags stuff full of packages and a Rite Aid rolling basket loaded with their packages. These two yahoos have been caught stealing packages on our security cameras and (Monday) we followed them down California Ave while they walked to McDonald’s; unfortunately, the cops were shorthanded and busy and never made it to the scene for an hour and a half. They were long gone. They hang out at the Juneau Market (California and Juneau) and McDonald’s (California and Holly). They are very active, and walk up California Ave and nearby alleys, side streets and through a lot of townhome complexes that are easy targets especially if they have access to alleyways.

They have provided all their photos and videos to police, whose report number from Monday is 18-202147.

VANDALISM: Received via text:

My name is D and I was getting ready to work when I found my car, a Honda Fit, vandalized on my carport behind Pagliacci Pizza.

The gas door and lid were torn off, heavy scratches on the rear quarter panel and flattened tire.

There’s blood spots around the tire; the person might be hurt.

Does that guy have nothing better to do? Fourth booking in less than a year?  Lock him up and throw away the keys before he does something really serious.

Jeez.  Fourth booking.  I really hope this person gets help, back on meds, and/or locked up.  People who are actively try to startle and scare other people are pretty frightening.  And there’s a certain point when they start escalating for more attention.  As far as signature gatherers go, I can’t stand the practice.  A lot of them are very pushy and rude.  It’s like door-to-door salespeople, but in front of the store you need to go into.  That’s not the way to get my signature, money, or vote.

The police report on the Westwood Village incident did note that police would recommend Mental Health Court handling of the case, given the man’s attire, among other things.

I’m going to trademark the phrase, never a dull moment (in WS). Lol

  • BAS June 6, 2018 (3:29 pm)

WSB, have you asked the Southwest Precinct what’s the status of those prolific package thieves? If they’re so easily found, why haven’t Seattle Police caught up with them?

    • WSB June 6, 2018 (3:41 pm)

      No, I have not.

I second that since that’s right by my house. The description of the male sounds familiar and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him in the alleys here. Been quite a bit of problems here with obvious people walking thru or being in the backyards for quite a few oF the houses here…

Can you get a better pic of the couple?

    • WSB June 6, 2018 (3:43 pm)

That is the clearest photo from the security video that shows them actually prowling the area.

    • Pukwudjies June 7, 2018 (1:36 pm)

We supplied great color photo of the perps in daylight. WSB did not post.

      • WSB June 7, 2018 (1:38 pm)

Those images were not from the sequence in which the actual prowling was shown, which is all that we can publish.

Let’s be realistic, even if there was an entire online photo gallery of clear pictures of these two featuring their home address which lead to their arrests, they would be out (probably on PR) within 24 hours.  And this would happen dozens of times and they would still be at it within hours of being released each time.  The only way package theft is going to stop in Seattle is for people to stop having packages delivered when they’re not home.   Sorry, folks, the package thieves have won.  There is absolutely no deterrent for them not to steal  – they have no sense of right and wrong and there is such a low risk/reward ratio, what’s stopping them?

    • Alki resident June 6, 2018 (10:09 pm)

      That’s the spirit.

    • Pukwudjies June 7, 2018 (1:44 pm)

@Sadbuttrue, I am afraid to say, you are right. It is worth the risk, which is why have everything delivered to the Mailbox West. But my neighbors don’t and our security system keeps catching thieves, day and night and they are always back on the street with in a couple days.

I believe I recognize the woman from the couple. A few weeks ago she tried to sell me an unopened expensive cosmetic on the bus. She must have gotten on the bus at Westwood because she was seated when I got on a stop later. I saw her exit the bus on 3rd & Pike with 3 shopping bags full of unopened items. If it’s the same person, she has auburn colored straight hair, is in her late 30’s to 40’s and about 5’2”; however, she kept passing out on the bus and has severly sunken cheeks and missing teeth so I feel comfortable saying that she’s dealing with addiction. If I remember correctly she excited at WorkSource… although she was struggling to get off the bus, she seemed to recognize some of the people hanging out there as – no I’m not kidding – she broke into a bizarre, semi conscious dance and started calling to them and waving her bags around. That was the first and only time I’ve seen her. And I didn’t see her up close as she was yelling at me from the front of the bus trying to sell stuff.

I don’t think it’s the same person. I just reread the article and as Kelli was physically behind them for over an hour I’m sure her age description is accurate, so not the same person.

And that’s why we don’t put random pictures that don’t show a crime being committed.

Your description is hilarious. Have you ever thought about creative writing?

4th booking in less than a year.I’d hike up bail so high (millions) after the second booking and deny bond. After the 3rd booking, no bail. These guys go in-and-out like of jail like it’s a revolving door, waiting for trial on other cases, committing other crimes, going to bail hearings, commiting more crimes, destroying lives in their wake.  I’m all for justice reform, but repeat violent offenders need vigorous inpatient from a mental health court, or a long time in prison if they refuse mental health treatment.

In Hollywood women can easily work in the sex/ massage/ dating services. Not saying its a good life, but its great money. For some reason, Seattle has always been very unfriendly to these businesses. They usually get shut down pretty fast. So what else is a female addict suppose to do for money? ( bigger issue obviously that we could talk for hours about regarding mental health & treatment. Point is, girls in LA can make $1000.00 a day and not even take their clothes off. Sometimes no sex. Think about this from a dope sick junkies point of view! Their going to get their drug money somehow. Seattle’s tight on prostitution so female addicts are all theives. Period. I speak from experience and I now work 7 days a week and have been clean for 14 years. I think you should get a better video camera and film it and load it on YouTube. Maybe the public shaming will scare her straight! Amazon will cut you off if you keep reporting thefts, better figure something out soon!

Sorry, comment time is over.
