TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday watch, including tree trouble on Bonair

7:01 AM: Good morning. One incident to report so far:

That’s Bonair in upper Alki, where a tree/limb has fallen and is blocking the road. Thanks to those who sent photos and tips (206-293-6302 any time)!

8:16 AM: If you use East Marginal Way S., note that it’s currently blocked between 14th Ave. S. (the South Park Bridge) and Ellis, because of a police response.

8:20 AM: The suspect who police were trying to get out of a car after a collision is now reported to be in custody and East Marginal will be reopened, per scanner.

11:04 AM: Caller says city crew is on Bonair now cleaning up the tree trouble.

While sitting in standstill traffic on the bridge, waiting my turn to get onto 99, three passenger vehicles raced by all of us in the bus lane. I thought, “why do some people think they’re above the rules? The rest of us would love to race over the bridge in the morning, but we follow the rules. I wish there were cops here to enforce the bus lane.” And to my delight, when I got close enough to see, there was a police officer there! He pulled over every one of those bus lane violators by stepping out into the lane and waving them over. Made my day!

I watch those cars everyday also and think of ways to stop them.lol Why not a camera mounted on bridge to record these cars,. Just like they do in school zones. Won’t thanks long for tickets to cover cost and then profit for the city to use for road repair.

34th District House Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon actually proposed making that legal, as we reported in January.

The suspect was pursued, then crashed, short standoff ensued, suspect was arrested.
