ROAD CLOSURE ALERT: Seattle City Light work to close section of Marine View Drive for more than a week

Received from Seattle City Light, as its year-and-a-half-plus project in South Arbor Heights/The Arroyos continues:

During the week of June 18, Seattle City Light crews will be working at the intersection of 39th Avenue SW and Marine View Drive SW to install a new electrical vault. As a result, a portion of Marine View Drive SW will be temporarily closed for construction.

ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION

June 18-27: A portion of Marine View Drive SW will be temporarily closed for construction. This closure will occur both during and outside of construction work hours.

Traffic through Marine View Drive SW will be restricted to local access only.

Crews will work with affected residents regarding driveway access to homes.

Detour routes are available on 39th Avenue SW, SW 108th Street and SW 110th Street during the closure.

Signs will direct drivers toward these detour routes as they approach Marine View Drive SW.

Trenching for the vault will occur within the public right-of-way (e.g. street and planting strips).

Some sidewalks, driveway approaches and vegetation will be affected by construction activities.

Trenches will be covered with steel plates or fenced off outside of construction work hours.

All affected areas will be restored and repaved, in accordance with SDOT guidelines.

Any idea if the closure of 35th between 106th & 104th will be finished by the 18th?

Doesn’t seem likely. Still seems pretty torn up down there.

I wish SDOT & City Light had waited until June 23rd to begin all this work. School ends in the Seattle School District on June 22nd, and all of this work affects the traffic & pedestrian flow into and out of Arbor Heights Elementary.

    That map is anatomically incorrect.

As usual, no logical communication between city projects, even those as closely related as SPU and SCL.  This will turn Arbor Heights into a mess and a maze.  Has Metro been included in the ‘plans’?  Having both of these projects going simultaneously cuts off a major portion of already limited bus service.  It seems ludicrous that SCL could not have waited a few more weeks for this…

Any large project such as this requires a traffic plan be submitted and approved well ahead or the project start date. That should result in all affected parties being notified and planning accordingly. Key word is should though

The construction on 35th further highlights why there needs
to be a robust sidewalk system, speed bumps, and reduced speed limits in the
neighborhood. With no viable sidewalk, traveling on 39th has become
incredibly dangerous as annoyed cars race through the detour, and 100th
has become even more of a danger trying to cross. We need better infrastructure
to support safe foot traffic in the neighborhood.

Sorry, comment time is over.
