WAY OUT: Low-low tide on West Seattle beaches

12:15 PM: Our photo is from Duwamish Head, where low-low tides like today (-3.5 feet about 15 minutes ago, -3.7 at 12:42 pm tomorrow) reveal hints of West Seattle history, like the site of the Luna Park amusement park, destroyed by fire more than a century ago. If you go exploring, tread lightly!

12:24 PM: From there, we headed to Constellation Park south of Alki Point, one of two locations where you’ll find Seattle Aquarium volunteer beach naturalists, until 1:30 pm today. As our photo shows, you’ll also find a lot of people – the almost-summer low-low tides bring out school field trips, too; we’ve seen several buses, even all the way from Issaquah.

Just walked from the Junction to Emma Schmitz To check out low tide.  Jacobson is the major arterial between the Junction and Me Kwa Mooks/ Beach Drive and the sidewalk is completely overgrown on the most dangerous blind corners.   You have to walk into the road on Jacobson to pass. Be careful…

Thanks! You can report to SDOT at 206-684-ROAD if you have a moment. Some sidewalk overgrowth is adjacent property owners’ responsibility but depending on where …. there’s a lot of public right-of-way along that stretch.

“destroyed by fire more than a century ago” …..I know it closed more than a century ago (who would want a water/amusement park in Seattle?…..)  But I think the Fire was in 1931 which would make it….hold on….math…let’s see, carry the 1…..87! 87 years ago!!…..which….hold on….more math…..YES! It turns out 87 years is LESS than a century ago! Okay so I know it’s annoying and facts don’t matter any more but I suggest a compromise, we’ll say, “destroyed by fire  ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶n̶  about a century ago” (smacks/rub hands together) And all was right in the world.

Yeah, facts do matter and we have an excellent track record. Yup, sorry, I erred here, though. While the park operated more than a century ago, the fire, per HistoryLink, was in 1930, and I should have checked.

Hey WSB, I am always surprised by some of the ridiculous and negative comments that people make here, so just wanted to say thanks as always for all the great information and keeping the Westside up to date and entertained! The blog rocks! 😀

Sorry, comment time is over.
