WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Thieves take bike, tools

11:43 PM TUESDAY: That bike is part of what was taken from a South Delridge yard on Saturday night. The victim reports anonymously:

Saturday night two trucks pulled up to our townhouse on the corner of 18th and Barton while we were gone. A white truck with red door (Nissan or Mazda mid-’90s) and then a red Ford truck (probably F150, early 2000s) arrived around 10:30 and left a little after midnight.

There appeared to be 3-4 males in the white truck wearing dark clothes with flashlights. A woman wearing shorts drove the red truck. They prowled around mostly on 18th Street. They entered a secured courtyard and just after midnight left with at least a cream-colored custom built road bike and two Craftsman tool boxes, one large red rolling and a smaller black stackable one.

Bike Description
58cm road bike frame, steel, “breezer” logo on rear dropouts, tig welded (custom)
Steel fork with brazed crown
Child seat bar (aluminum) attached to steer tube
“Function” emblem on head tube
Cream color with subtle pink stains on downtube in powdercoat
Dent on top tube wrapped in dark gray vinyl
Dent on seat tube wrapped in dark gray vinyl
Seat stays wrapped in dark gray vinyl
1 chainstay wrapped in black electrical tape
Shimano 600 parts group
2 x 8 speeds

There are a few more distinguishing features, but that ought to be enough for you to recognize it if you see/find it. If you have any information on the theft, the SPD incident # is 18-192497.

ADDED WEDNESDAY, 4:05 PM: Good job, commenters! E-mailed by the victim: “The police found the truck and owner today around noon. We were able to recover a lot of what was taken, including the bicycle and the tool boxes. There’s damage and things are missing but it feels good to recover something. Please send our gratitude to all the readers for looking out for each other!”

It’s not a Ford, it’s a Mazda cab plus, mid 90s. I saw these guys at the Shell at 7801 Detroit Ave SW this evening.  Two white males, license plate starts with C99. https://youtu.be/4O24CWT9LgE

@Coldheart: Good job grabbing the “little truck”, identified as a “Nissan or Mazda mid-’90s” in the story. The Ford is still a Ford, and is a red early 2000’s as reported.Good job, smart to pull out your cell. I’m sure that distinctive truck will be found soon.

Yes, my mistake. I did see that the fullsize  (I can’t ID the make) was the large red one behind the Mazda in the video, upon closer reading. I did not see that truck tonight but will keep an eye out.

I just saw the Mazda with the red drivers door parked on 17th and Roxbury. The hood was popped open with the driver underneath. Sorry I couldn’t get a picture, it was very dark and other cars were behind me

Shouldn’t be too hard to find these morons in that truck. Always nice to see other folks on the lookout as well – nice job @coldheart craig!

I saw this Ford yesterday afternoon at the 76 station on Roxbury and again this morning on 15th and Cambridge. There is a woman driving and a small child climbing around in the cab. The truck is full of “stuff” and there was a man in the passenger seat. They ran a stop sign yesterday in front of me, which was why I noticed them. This morning they were trying to jump start another car. The truck also has some kind of tool box that seems to be attached to the hitch. I’m assuming that It won’t be hard to find them and I’d be really surprised if the stuff in the truck is not stolen! Then again I’ve had so much stolen from my house, I might be slightly bitter and making assumptions.

  • STS May 30, 2018 (11:30 am)

Just saw this truck pull into the illegal Myers Way homeless camp at approx 11:15-11:20am. Called the non emergency police line to report. They said they would check it out.

    • WSB May 30, 2018 (11:38 am)

I am hearing this being dispatched right now.

    • STS May 30, 2018 (11:38 am)

Should clarify that I saw the Mazda truck with red door.

Just to confirm. The thieves were found out the illegal squatters “camp”? I am sure there is no correlation between criminal activity in our neighborhoods and criminal “camping”.nice work sts, appreciate your vigilance

Sorry to hear about that bike.  It’s got a bit of a distinct look.  I’ll keep an eye out!

Saw this woman in her red ford, parked on my street (21ST and Henderson)black hitch box, crap piled to the hilt it was definitely her around 2:45pm. Reports state stolen items recovered around noon. Don’t get me wrong I’m thrilled victims items were recovered, but what good is it if she’s just turned loose hours later. So fed up with the revolving door joke. We caught you,  tsk tsk now don’t do it again. At least impound her car. You know she’s just out doing it again as I type this. Barf. Tired of our city officials bending over backwards for the homeless to steal our property.

    • WSB May 30, 2018 (10:05 pm)

If you read again, it wasn’t the red truck that “STS” spotted, it was the other truck.

    • b May 31, 2018 (11:19 am)

We have the license plate of that Red Ford truck as we’ve seen it parked outside of our house a couple times and cruising slowly through our back alley at 5am. We’ve called the police to report it as suspicious, the second time we were told its not illegal for them to be sleeping in their truck in front of our house. We have the license plate – C48112J – and a picture of the truck from behind.

Really, really, so, so great that you all stepped up in this and used the WSB Crime Watch report and pics in an effort to support the losses felt by this person. When I saw the photo of the bike in a setting that felt at least a little bit romantic, my heart broke for the bicycle rider. (beautiful bike BTW) Very happy for how it turned out for him or her.  :-)
