WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen blue Civic; dumped purse & more

Two reader reports to start off the day in West Seattle Crime Watch:

STOLEN BLUE CIVIC: Yolina‘s car was stolen near 24th SW and SW Holden. It’s a blue four-door 1998 Honda Civic, plates AOT1713. If you see it, call 911.

DUMPED AND LIKELY STOLEN: From Jonathan:

I woke up this morning to find that someone had dumped a handbag and some other personal items at my curb. I have attached a photo in the off chance it can find its way back to its rightful owner.

I’m located at 49th and Stevens.

P.S. – CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL TONIGHT: Got a neighborhood crime concern? Or a question for police? Tonight’s your chance to bring it up with them in person at the monthly West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting, 7 pm, Southwest Precinct (2300 SW Webster), all welcome.

I’m never sure what the right thing to do when one finds stuff on the sidewalk etc.  Should I pack it up and bring it home and post a picture here or leave it be and post a picture?  Just curious.

Our recommendation is: Pack it up, bring it in, send a photo. Leave a note if you can. But only if it really looks like something that can’t possibly have just been lost (like a key).

That works for me!  Thanks Tracy.

Always be cognizant when handling unknown belongings there may be Sharps left in the pile and you don’t want to get stuck being a good citizen.

Grabbers are great tools. We use ours when derelict alcohol abusers toss giant beer cans into the planting strip.

YES, be careful of Sharps.  We found a jacket on the steps of our alley entry. Thinking it was a neighbor’s jacket, I checked the pockets for ID.  I found a hypodermic needle (thankfully capped).

A lot of hand-scrubbing ensued, and a bright light was installed on the steps.

Grabbers are the way to go! I pick up needles and blood soaked napkins, cotton balls and Qtips every single day on my property., I even find them jammed into the ground, needle side up!! It’s insane. I find bags of clothing and personal item ever day also. They go in the dumpster. It is never anything anyone would want to claim. Not worth the risk to pick up and store. It’s usually just crap the homeless person no longer wants to carry around.

      That sucks!

im sorry you have to deal with that.

If I found crap like that-I think I’d probably install a motion sensor manure flinger!

Sorry, comment time is over.
