TRAFFIC ALERT: Crash at 8th/Cloverdale

Thanks to Dennis for the photo and report: “This is the second at least that I know of, in a year. This time there is an injury. How do I go about getting the city to sign this uncontrolled intersection???” We’ve been asked that question before, regarding other intersections. This page offers some advice. Anyone reading this who’s been through the process is also invited to offer theirs!

Contact the city and don’t let up. Find it/Fix it, contact the SDOT. They finally put in a stop sign at 39th and 98th in Arbor Heights after someone was seriously injured there in a crash (was previously an oft-ignored yield sign). Of course, it would also help if 75% of the idiot drivers in West Seattle actually knew how uncontrolled intersections worked, and followed those rules, but yeah, that’s not going to happen!

Uncontrolled intersection tend to operate safely overall.  Adding Stop signs to one of the streets will result in faster travel speeds on the unstopped street.  Further installing stop signs where they are not warranted results in reduced traffic safety overall!

Our neighborhood has contacted the city several times over the past 25 years to work with the neighborhood to try anything to address the frequency of accidents at this intersection. Nothing has ever come of it.  This most recent accident is not the first injury accident to occur in the last couple of years. There has also been a rollover accident at this intersection.

      When was the most-recent time?

Sorry, comment time is over.
