Mayor visiting South Park tomorrow for community roundtable

Three months after she joined the peace vigil/march in South Park, the mayor returns to SP tomorrow afternoon.

As part of her ongoing effort to bring City Hall to all Seattle communities, Mayor Jenny A. Durkan will host a roundtable with South Park community leaders to discuss ongoing and new City initiatives in South Park. Mayor Durkan will be joined by representatives of the Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Office of Sustainability and the Environment, and Seattle Police Department, who will be able to answer questions and provide resources to the community.

“South Park is a diverse and vibrant home to many young people, families, and small businesses, but it also demonstrates our City’s need for equitable investment in economic empowerment, public safety, and better basic services,” said Mayor Durkan. “Through collaboration with community leaders, we are going to tackle the tough challenges facing South Park and create more opportunity for our young people.”

She’s scheduled to be at the South Park Community Center (8319 8th Ave. S.) at 3 pm Thursday.

Is she going to discuss the ongoing turf gang war between the South park and North Burien based Hispanic fighting factions?  You know, the important stuff like the gang murders taking place in the communities?

No idea – if somebody asks, I’m sure she would comment, so you might want to be there to make sure.

I know it’s all the same to most of us, but does the Mayor of Seattle have any influence on the  other communities around us? I would hope and expect all local leaders to make their best efforts to work together along with law enforcement to prevent future violence.

The Mayor has inherited a real mess for sure. Homelessness gets worse as does crime against property and citizens in west Seattle. SDOT a disaster with our levy now shot. So often all due to little or no accountability as with everything the ideological business disaster of our council. Now with Obrien looking at a recall.. it is creeping closer to Lisa H as she too with Uber threatening to leave due to council intervention , now looks like Amazon my join? 80 to 90 percent say no head tax but she moves forward anyway. Good luck Jenny… your council is working to shut the city down in the interest of a couple thousand homeless and a socialist agenda.

Watch business start to push back and your problem grows exponentially.

Mike O’Brien is not “looking at a recall”. You can’t recall a city council member just because you don’t like their legislative priorities. Oh sure, people are circulating petitions. But there’s no legal basis for a recall, and it’s sure to be tossed out.

Sorry, comment time is over.
