WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: DUI crash investigation; package taken

Two reader reports in Crime Watch this morning:

DUI CRASH INVESTIGATION: Thanks to Keith for the photo and report from a crash around 9 last night south of Alki, at 59th SW/SW Charlestown. He reported that the driver was taken into custody after hitting parked cars; Tweets by Beat confirms it’s a DUI investigation.

And a package-theft victim reports finding himself face-to-face with the person who took his package:

PACKAGE TAKEN: Nathan reports that happened on Wednesday:

I literally spoke to a thief that stole a package from the side of my house. I did not know I had a package delivered; usually I receive a notification from UPS.

You’ll see her walk to my backyard, talk to me as I was in the basement, go to the side of my house where UPS has been leaving packages lately, then run back through my yard with a much fuller bag. Seconds later, I walk outside, not realizing what had just happened. She asked if my house was for rent. I told her no, but didn’t really think it was suspicious because our neighbor rents their house out and I thought maybe they were looking for another renter. Guess I should have known better.

UPS confirmed the package was delivered minutes before the theft. If you have any information, refer to police incident # 2018-902958.

Rat’s are becoming a growing problem as are these vermin. May the pest eradication services could expand their services. I’d be OK with live traps but what’s the use with our “catch and release” policy?

    • Mr E April 6, 2018 (11:14 am)

So we’re going to compare human beings to rodents and use a metaphor of live traps?

Is this the new normal for WSB comments?

Please grow a sense of humor and can your sanctimonious outrage. It might make your day a little more pleasant. By the way- Try to have a nice one!

You are comparing human beings to rodents. I fail to see the humor in your sanctimonious comment. Re-examine your sense of morality.

Hmmm, actually the rodents I have had in my life as pets have been tremendous and loyal. Much more so than most people I know.

        How about “thieving scum” instead?

  • Ron April 6, 2018 (11:09 am)

When I first saw the DUI car crash story, I thought it might be the Hyundai Sonata with temp plates that past me doing 75MPH last night near Salty’s heading into Alki.  But that was 9:30pm and the car looks different from the photo above.  Must have been another drunk.

    • WSB April 6, 2018 (11:16 am)

We don’t always hear about them (thanks again to Keith for sending this) but this was one of four alleged DUI incidents on the list from last night – others, Delridge/Findlay, 4700 block of 44th in The Junction, 4700 block of 42nd in The Junction, per Tweets by Beat (which is also the feed for the aggregated list you can see on our Crime Watch page at any time). There were also three unspecified “traffic violation” incidents listed on Harbor Avenue alone, so maybe your sighting was one of those. – TR

Dang! If you’re going t-bone a car don’t do it to a Porsche!

    Mr E. –

Would you rather we refer to the package thieves as “low-life-scum” as opposed to “rats”?  Seems like either description fits.

    • Mr E April 6, 2018 (3:50 pm)

Refer to the package thieves as package thieves and live your life with a better sense of purpose than needing to refer to people as low-life scum or rats. Try being a better person than how you portray yourself online. It’s not that hard.

      • Yuck April 6, 2018 (10:49 pm)

Chatting you up and then stealing your property is the definition of a sneaky rat thieving scum!! I think your need to feel superior to those venting frustration and coaching people about being a better person is most telling..

  • Rick April 6, 2018 (10:05 pm)

    Doesn’t even deserve a reply.

  • Wseattleite. April 7, 2018 (12:01 am)

Mr E, package thieves, whether referred to as such, or rats, are knowingly and planning ahead to take someone else’s property through thieving or robbery. You worry about your titles. The package thieves need worry about my ability to defend my own property rights. It may be their last attempt in this life to deny law abiding citizens their rights to what they have worked hard to obtain.  Feel free to pass that along.  I have every sympothy for those in need outside of their actions. Not for those who take unjustly, clearly within their rational decisions.

More compassion for the criminals than the victims.  So progressive. Who will scream the loudest when it happens to THEM?

Like Rick and many others in this city, I feel extremely frustrated at the increasing burglaries and crime in this city. Morality is achieved by the community coming together to provide firm but fair consequences to people convicted of crimes to help discourage and reduce criminal activity. All of the energy that Mr. E is using to chastise Rick, could instead be directed toward chastising criminals who create a lot of headaches and hardship for our community. Until our city begins to give real consequences vs. a slap on the wrist, the rate of crimes will continue to increase.

first off- invest in a 4K camera. your package thief is a female

    • WSB April 8, 2018 (10:18 am)

Which is how Keith described her in his note, as published above.

Sorry, comment time is over.
