WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Helicopter help with auto-theft arrest (video added); Admiral break-in; bicycle found

In West Seattle Crime Watch:

HELICOPTER HELP WITH AUTO-THEFT ARREST: Thanks for the tips about Guardian One over Arbor Heights a short time ago. We headed that way to investigate – hadn’t heard anything on the scanner – and subsequently learned that they were helping track down a stolen car. The helicopter crew tweeted that it was found with a suspect “passed out inside.” This happened near 34th and 100th (photo above). ADDED 2:54 PM: Helicopter video, just made public:

ADMIRAL BREAK-IN: From John:

Our garage was broken into (Wednesday) afternoon around 3:20 pm. The padlock was cut off. We were home watching TV when they entered our back yard via the alley. They were preparing items to be picked up later as they stole the garage door opener. Hope they return soon so I don’t get tired of waiting for them. We are located on 41st Ave SW North of Admiral Way. Seattle Police were out and took fingerprints.

That’s not far from where a car was broken into a day later.

BICYCLE FOUND: Abandoned bicycles usually tend to have been stolen and dumped. Here’s one Karen just found on a dead-end West Seattle street:

Yours? Let us know.

Is that car a Nissan Stanza with plate number BIF2948?

    • WSB March 30, 2018 (12:49 pm)

I am sorry to say that we don’t have a pic of the plate – they were dealing with the suspect and so our photographer opted for the quick across-the-street photo. When stolen cars are recovered, they generally try to contact the owner quickly, in determining whether the vehicle can be picked up, or will have to be impounded.

        No worries, thanks for responding!

There are more and more of these stories in the WSB these days. Sad.

Soon to be seen in another stolen car near you, but first he’s gotta buy more dope.

I like how the burglarized home owners are waiting for the thiefs to retur.  Hope they get them and make sure they won’t be able to do it again!

If your garage door remote has been stolen or otherwise compromised, be sure to reset the code as soon as possible. It is a relatively simple procedure described in your user manual and probably in a youtube video as well. If you don’t have time to figure out how to do that, at least unplug the motor. Some tracks have a manual latch inside to keep the door from opening.

So you’re promoting vigilante justice now? What is wrong with you?

      • kps April 2, 2018 (10:10 am)

I don’t think they are promoting vigilante justice. Let’s not jump to conclusions and attack the victims of the crime. We all know that these criminals are scared away if they show up and there are people in the home.

What happened to the drivers side back passenger door is that where the video stopped? ;>)

    • WSB March 30, 2018 (4:15 pm)

The video was published by the King County Sheriff’s Office so we have no control over where it starts or ends – if you click through the YouTube logo on the lower right of the embedded video window, you can see it directly on YouTube, and it’s the same exact length/contents. This is the first West Seattle video I’ve seen from them in a long time; most of what I’ve seen in the past has been nighttime infrared video, so this is particularly unusual.

Oh I wasn’t meaning you (WSB) stopped the video.

Just wondering how easy is it to remove or bust a door off of a vehicle? LOL!!!

  • John March 30, 2018 (5:47 pm)

Looking at the photo and video, it appears to be a sliding  door similar to many vans.  WSB photo shows the door in the open position as revealed by the window pillars and track along top of door.

FWIW, the helicopter video was recorded before we were on the scene – Guardian One was gone by the time we arrived.

  • waikikigirl March 30, 2018 (6:53 pm)

@John…ah that makes sense…and I even had my glasses on when reading the story! :>)

Sorry, comment time is over.
