MISSING: Have you seen Kathleen?

FRIDAY, 9:25 PM: Friends and neighbors are trying to find out what happened to Kathleen, who they say hasn’t been seen at her Highland Park home for two weeks. Her disappearance is suspicious, explains her neighbor Grace, because Kathleen’s home appeared to have been ransacked and her dog left behind, with obvious signs of neglect. Grace says Kathleen “was considered our neighborhood vigilante,” in terms of watching out for crime and suspicious activity, and that she would never let a neighbor’s disappearance go unremarked on, so they’re trying to find out what happened to her. They say Kathleen worked at Home Depot but hadn’t been there for a few weeks. A police report has been filed, 2018-109928, so if you’ve seen Kathleen or have any information about the circumstances of her disappearance, her friends hope you will call 911 and refer to that incident number. (We are not publishing Kathleen’s full name, as we have not heard from relatives, nor, Grace says, have neighbors.)

ADDED MONDAY MORNING: We just talked with Det. Mark Jamieson at SPD media relations, who talked with the detective assigned to the case after we inquired. He confirms what a family member says in the comment section, that at this point there is no indication of foul play (criminal activity); she was reported missing about two weeks ago and the case remains open.

No history of breakdowns, and I believe the police have already checked out the local hospitals.

Woah.  This seems like bigger news than it’s getting press for across other outlets in Seattle.  Stuff like this is very out of the ordinary.  Have the police said anything else?  Hopefully the police have more leads and just can’t let info out yet.  The fact that her place was ransacked, dog left and she was outspoken about neighborhood activity, definitely makes this seem like she’d been targeted in revenge.  Hopefully she’s safe and found soon.

I haven’t seen the police report, but will be asking for the narrative on Monday.

  • BJ March 31, 2018 (9:47 am)

I am one of her neighbors and a LOT of the information in this is not correct.  Grace is jumping to conclusions without having the facts.  Thats all i am saying on this

    • TB March 31, 2018 (11:30 am)

Hey you informed the police on any information you might have?

      • G March 31, 2018 (12:46 pm)

Numerous other direct neighbors have enough knowledge and care/concern for Kathleen to where we felt it necessary to at least share with the community that a fellow neighbor has been reported missing, and the missing persons case is still open and being investigated. Multiple of us emailed WSB, I was the one who agreed to my name to be shared. No one is jumping to conclusions, and if you take the time to create a post to mention you have facts about this case that prove their is a lot of misinformation listed, please ensure you have the extra 3 minutes it would have taken to note what information is factually false. Its not condusive to this community, nor to this investigation to simply “thats all I’m saying on this.”

        • D March 31, 2018 (9:31 pm)

I won’t say anything else because this is an active case with the police and we all need to let them do their jobs.

If you would like to get the word out of this possible criminal situation, the broadcast media in Seattle is limited but covers a wide area.  I would recommend gathering your facts neatly and clearly, the who, what, where and why, and providing a clear, large picture of your friend. Email it to all of the newsrooms with your contact information:

Best luck and thanks for looking our for your neighbor. I hope she is ok.

Has anyone tracked her phone, or has been back to her house? to see If the phone has been used in the last few hours.

I’m always comforted when all the Nancy Drew’s and Hardy boys around west seattle are hot on the case.

I thought WSB reports news and not just what people say.  Maybe checking with the police and getting in touch with family members before posting this would have been the right thing to do.  Instead of realitives who are working with the police hearing about this post and reading all the incorrect information.   I am with a relative right now trying to console them after seeing this. Bad reporting. This is a police matter and not a gossip matter.

  • C April 1, 2018 (12:10 pm)

I am a member of Kathleen’s family and I can confirm that much of the information in this post is inaccurate. As such, we have written to the editor of WSB to request that this post be corrected.

We are working closely with law enforcement and there is absolutely no indication of any foul play in this case. We would greatly appreciate the community directing any relevant information about the case to SPD but we would also respectfully ask that potentially harmful misinformation not be shared. Kathleen’s two young sons go to school in the neighborhood and we are very concerned that false information may get back to them regarding their mother’s disappearance. They are already dealing with a very emotionally trying experience so we don’t want to compound that by having them hear that their mother may have been harmed when there is no indication that is the case.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation.
