CRIME WATCH: Admiral stabbing case update; packages taken; truck abandoned

Three items tonight:

ADMIRAL STABBING CASE: Kierra Ward, charged with stabbing a woman out walking with her baby last October, was back in court today. This was scheduled to be her trial-readiness hearing, but it was pushed back another week, because, the resulting document says, a “defense expert is continuing to assess the case.” The hearing was rescheduled for next Friday, March 16th; Ward’s trial is still set to start March 21st, pending the outcome of that hearing. She remains in King County Jail, in lieu of $400,000 bail.

PACKAGES TAKEN: The video is from Chelsea:

She says the two packages were taken from her doorstep near California and Andover around 4:30 pm, two hours after the second delivery, and notes that her front steps aren’t visible from the street. SPD incident #, if you have any information about this, is 2018-085748.

ABANDONED TRUCK: Kristen sent this in, in case someone is looking for this vehicle:

Black Ford Explorer truck at bus stop at Admiral and Olga St. SW. Back window broken, and garbage in vehicle and look alike steering column has been broken. Police said they will send someone out to tag the car this evening but may not investigate right away.

SPD abandoned the @getyourcarback Twitter account months ago, so we have no way to cross-reference possible stolen vehicles.

I called SPD on a Friday 8:30 AM to report a suspected stolen car parked in my double block long alley – tucked away. Nothing was done, the car sat all weekend.  Then all 4 wheels had vanished off the car by Monday morning. I called SPD again with the update, and this time they contacted the owner within 1.5 hours. It was a young man who was heart broken to find his stolen car with all the wheels missing. If only SPD had contacted the young man Friday he would have been able to drive his car away. In fact, he told me he reported it STOLEN Friday morning at 7:30 AM, one hour before I reported a suspected stolen car.  What a shame!

You want better policing – then vote in favor of more police on your streets

Theyre severely understaffed this is not priority when they’re running short

“defense expert is continuing to assess the case.”

    oh good grief…

A man and a couple of young boys came and picked up the truck this morning – thanks WSB for posting the photo and helping the owners find their truck!

Sierra Ward stabbed a woman with a child with witnesses.  What is there to assess.  She belongs behind bars!

    • WSB March 10, 2018 (2:10 pm)

She is behind bars. In our system, everyone gets the right to defend themselves at trial if they choose to take the case that far, which she has chosen, so far. As we’ve reported previously, a majority of cases are resolved by guilty pleas, but that hasn’t happened here so far.

Brenda, we do not need to vote in favor of more policing. Protection and security are a core role of municipal government. Seattle has chosen not to hire more police as the population has grown. That should be automatic as tax revenue comes in at the rate it has. The city has never been up front in where all the new money from the general fund is going, but the pension committment fund is growing exponentially from what I hear from a friend in the know. Unsustainable. The city ever asking for a tax increase to pay for more police would be the worst move yet in this city

When was that picture of the black explorer taken/how long has it been there? It was involved in an incident Tuesday morning, SPD involved and arrested the driver.

    • Kristen March 10, 2018 (11:38 pm)

The truck was parked in the spot on Olga St. SW noticed from Wednesday, March 7th with the picture taken on Friday, March 9th. It may have been there a day or two earlier, but this stretch on Olga gets a lot of bus stop parking traffic, so we really didn’t notice it ‘left’ there as of Wednesday. Given the appearance, it was obviously stolen and joy’rided around for awhile before dumped.

I see now, Kristen, you mention the owners came and got the truck today. I’d love to know who they were, and if the truck had been stolen, as the man driving that truck Tuesday morning attempted to break in my house.

    • Kristen March 10, 2018 (11:43 pm)

Yikes! I was not outside when the owners came and picked up the truck, but I do not think the guys that came and got the truck were the same people who dumped it outside of my neighbors house. She saw the guys pick it up this morning. It was parked oddly (likely it was quickly run into the curb), with the back window knocked out, and the cab full of fast food bags and coffee cups…it was clearly stolen as the piece under the steering column looked like it was cracked and had been tamped with. Unfortunately the owners came and got the truck without talking to my neighbor, whose house it was parked in front of, or my husband or I. Sorry that we do not have their information. I would suspect that the driver was the person who stole the truck, not the owner :(

West Seattle is getting pretty scary – I’m sorry that this person tried to break int your house as well!

I thought that he was pulled over by the SPD on 36th, probably around Stevens or Lander, but I guess they could have followed him around to EB Olga before stopping him. I believe they arrested him, Tuesday morning, and I’d guess they would have left the truck there.

Perhaps someone stole it after they arrested him, but funny that they return and dump it a block away. The other scenario is he stole it and was driving it stolen when he got to my house. While he was prowling my yard and trying doors the truck was running so maybe it was already hot-wired. The inside was a mess at that point but I didn’t notice back window being broken. I was under the impression from the officers that he was clean with no problems, certainly didn’t mention it being a stolen vehicle.

Who knows, though, as the report number they gave me yields “Police report not found!” message on the SPD website. So this man gets to terrorize my family and knows where I live and I know NOTHING about him but a license plate which may or may not belong to him. Victims need more rights in our country.

I am always confused why people install cameras that are hidden and at ridiculous angles. If you want to see a face, you need to install it at eye level. The presence of an obvious camera might be enough for your packages to stay on your porch!

Sorry, comment time is over.
