STILL OUT OF POWER: West Seattle Trader Joe’s closure continues

11:12 AM: Just in case you were wondering, West Seattle Trader Joe’s (4545 Fauntleroy Way SW) remains closed, without power for a fourth day since a suspected drunk driver rolled his car and damaged electrical equipment on the west side of the building. Seattle City Light told us on Monday that their crew repaired their part of the equipment by Saturday evening, and they’re ready to reconnect when the company finishes fixing equipment that it owns. We haven’t yet reached a company spokesperson to get more on that.

TUESDAY EVENING: The power is back on and the anonymous-but-knowledgeable commenter who has been providing updates says the store’s expected to reopen Wednesday morning.

I was just across the street having lunch and it looked like they were putting up a sign that says “Yes, we’re open!” I should’ve taken a picture of it… But it looks like they’re open now?

      We’ll go check (again). Thanks!

me too; will make us ever more grateful when they open again

I imagine it will take them a while to get their freezers/refrigerators restocked.  Seems like on a regular week they’re always very limited in certain items by Monday after work.   Too bad they don’t have any social media pages to keep people updated.

On another site it said that they donated the Freezer and dairy Items.  I would assume these are the items that they need to re-stock once the store opens.  Will the DUI person have to pay for this loss?  I would think that this would be the wake up call that he needs.

Can TJ’s sue the impaired driver? I realize insurance companies do all kinds of wrangling, but man. They should wring that jackass dry.

Hey all, just a quick update, we will not be opening today. We are having our electrician do specific tests on the new equipment we had to wait and install, hints the long delay. We will be working hard this evening when the power comes back on to restock what perishables we have available and be open tomorrow at 8 a.m.

Wonderful news! Hope you guys don’t run into any problems tonight.  Clearly the neighborhood misses you guys :)

TJ’s doesn’t restock items on shelves as they empty out until after they close. That’s why stock seems low later in the day (i.e. after work)

    • Anonymous December 5, 2017 (5:44 pm)

Throughout the day we do restock what we have in our back stock if there is a big empty place on the shelf.

    • Carol December 5, 2017 (10:10 pm)

Yeah, that’s not true. They literally restock items all day long. Have you ever been in a Trader Joe’s? cause you can literally see them restocking. They get low on items because they get shorted from the warehouse, an item is popular demand, or maybe someone ordered incorrectly.

    They’re open!

They’re open. Painting a huge “We’re Open” sign on the front window!!

Thanks; we’re going by shortly, weren’t able to be there right at 8 am to see for ourselves, but after the power was restored last night, it seemed a given.

Sorry, comment time is over.
