WEST SEATTLE WHALE-WATCHING: Orcas in the area

(PHOTOS ADDED Sunday evening)

1:16 PM: Via text from Kersti Muul – orcas are back in the area, transients this time, seen southbound from north Bainbridge Island before 1 pm, “large male T87 and others with calf.” Please let us know if you see them (comment, and/or text our 24/7 hotline, 206-293-6302) – thank you!

1:32 PM: Update from Kersti – they’re now “outside Elliott Bay” so should be in view (now or soon) – be sure to bring binoculars.

4:34 PM: Thanks to the commenters who have provided updates – we had to cover (inland) events and weren’t able to go look!

SUNDAY EVENING: Thanks to Greg Snyder for e-mailing the two photos we have added above, and thanks to Kersti for adding photos in comments below!

Watched them go south past Alki about 20 minutes ago. See reports on Orca Network Facebook.

Not everyone can see social media so that’s why we publish here, on a website visible to all without log-ins or membership required, etc. Thanks for the update!

You don’t need to be logged-in to facebook to view Orca Network posts and comments.  It really is, by far, the best source for keeping up with the Orcas.

          You can text ‘follow whalescout’

          To: 40404

And you will get texts updates from us.

We go out to where the whales will pass and do marine education. I am a certified marine naturalist as are some other whalescouts.

It’s a good tool to add to your box.

I usually encourage folks to meet me somewhere on the whale trail, as both groups I work with promote shore based whale watching.

So they turned around and have gone into the bay?

    T100bs

heading into Elliot Bay. I got caught in a squall, pictures are kind of crappy. I was in the middle of doing a fundraiser cropwalk and my focus was frozen.
