FOLLOWUP: Sign time for opening-soon Supreme in the West Seattle Junction

Thanks to tipster Brian Presser of TouchTech Systems in The Junction for that photo of the sign arriving for one of his future neighbor businesses, Supreme (4521 California SW). As noted back in July, it’s the newest venture for Chef Mark Fuller of Ma’ono and New Luck Toy, and it’ll be focused on pizza and drinks. We spoke with Chef Fuller today as the sign installation was under way, and he says they’re hoping to be able to open in a few weeks, late October/early November.

I’m sorry they painted over the colorful tile on the front of the store!

No kidding! I seriously have to question their sense of aesthetics. And very time our family walks by that spot, my children express their disappointment that the pretty tiles are gone.

No kidding – goodbye colorful mosaics, hello flat-black.  If I wanted a dank binge drinking dive bar aesthetic I’d move to a college town.

But seattle is a college “town”. A few colleges actually:  UW, PLU, SPU, South Seattle Community College, etc.

Welcome to the future of West Seattle. The thing they’re building next to me couldn’t be any more of a gray, depressing box.  Most folks think it’s primer. When I saw the artist’s rendering over a year ago I didn’t think it could get any uglier. I stand corrected. At least I’m getting the bot at the end of next year so another one can be slapped up.

I know you’re not referring to the subject of this story but for those disquieted by the black paint … there are storefronts in The Junction that have been that color for decades. CAPERS, for example … as far back into the ’90s as I can remember … and others, as we noted while driving down California tonight, primarily on that block, that side. But – having taken a closer look last weekend for a followup that’ll appear later this week – if you’re walking by, check out the new mural by the door! Fairly festive. – TR

Is Pizza a zero-sum game, or are more pizza places going to generate more demand for pizza? I wonder if they will serve merlot?

That’s all that I, and my wife, noticed when we walked past it too. I can’t believe someone went out of their way to paint over the tiles. Kind of set a tone for me with the business. I’m happy to be surprised otherwise though, really am. I suspect the goth paint will chip off over time and reveal the tile again – I hope.

I LOVE that they painted over those colorful tiles! Too bad they couldn’t make the beige vinyl windows disappear too! Nice to have another restaurant with a well designed space! They’ve contributed so much to West Seattle from both a culinary and aesthetic standpoint. And, they’re great people! Give them a chance.

Agree! People will always find something to complain about.

    • cheshire_67 October 21, 2017 (6:21 pm)

i loved those colorful tiles and was a bit disappointed when they painted over them but am so thankful that they only painted over them and didn’t remove them. *That* would’ve been terrible. anyway, i’m really looking forward to spending lots of time there and i have a feeling the black tile will set the appropriate mood. booze, pizza, AND pinball?! come’on now! can’t wait!!

Petes sake…more pretentious pizza claiming an authenticity they can’t possibly deliver…..wait, will they deliver?

  • NYer October 14, 2017 (11:57 am)

    New York style pizza? Hmmmmm

    • hj October 14, 2017 (3:37 pm)

Nothing more tedious than New Yorkers opining about pizza.

      • WSB October 14, 2017 (3:50 pm)

Pizza is in the buds of the taster. First time I visited New York in 1980, a friend who had moved back there took me to the place she said had the best real New York pizza. I was wildly disappointed, compared to my favorites back in Las Vegas, where she and I had worked together a couple years before. Anyway, for anyone interested in further details of what this particular place is working on, stand by for a followup within a few days. – TR

      Early November.
