FOLLOWUP: Abel Linares charged with first-degree murder in West Seattle shooting death of Edixon Velasquez

10:45 AM: The second suspect arrested in last month’s deadly shooting of Edixon Velasquez outside his Westwood home is now charged. King County prosecutors have charged 19-year-old Abel Linares with first-degree murder and asked that his bail be quadrupled to $1 million. More…

11:03 AM: The charging papers don’t add much to the details we published yesterday from the probable-cause documents – they reiterate that Linares was in a “dating relationship” with the first suspect arrested, 21-year-old Anna Kasparova, an ex-girlfriend of the 25-year-old victim. But the new documents say multiple people told investigators that Linares said he had shot Velasquez. His arraignment is set for October 19th.

Mr. Linares is not only vicious and without conscience, but so stupid that he poses a danger to society on that point alone.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

The charging papers state that the suspect told multiple people he shot the victim.

In terms of “innocent until proven guilty” … Police *say* that the people they talked to *say* he told them he shot the victim. None of the publicly available information so far says that either suspect has confessed firsthand. Whether there is other evidence (aside from the neighbor’s video), we don’t know. We’ll of course watch the case as it unfolds, whether it goes to trial, or results in a plea bargain, or …

… “in a court of law”. Presumption of innocence is a legal doctrine, not a social one.

Really!? You’re worried about someone’s reputation being smeared, even though they bragged about killing someone?! Even if bragger did not do it- I would say they would deserve a bit of bad press at the very least.. Is your energy well spent defending the honor of someone who tells others that killed a person? This is the Seattle-tude that makes our city such a wishywashy homeless toilet.

Don’t you think the police know what happened by now? How much pressure does it take for someone who murdered their last boyfriend, to rat out the new one?

So sad that someone was ambushed and murdered. So stupid that two people wasted their lives in this senseless and pointless murder. May they get the sentences they deserve.

He admitted his guilt……..But the new documents say multiple people told investigators that Linares said he had shot Velasquez.
