WEST SEATTLE ROAD WORK: SW Edmunds closure for road-panel replacement

We mentioned road work on SW Edmunds west of California SW in this morning’s traffic coverage – and now we have full details from SDOT spokesperson Norm Mah:

This paving project began today. It will replace concrete panels in the EB lane of SW Edmunds St between 44th Ave SW and California Ave SW.

This section of SW Edmunds is closed in both directions, and will be closed for the duration of the project. The crew anticipates that the road will re-open to traffic by Sunday afternoon. A uniformed police officer will be on-site to help direct traffic while the work is being completed. SDOT would like to thank the public for its patience while this work is completed.

First word of the closure came in late yesterday, when Metro sent an alert about temporary rerouting of Route 22.

I got the alert from Metro for the 22 (which I don’t ride, but have on my list of alerts) yesterday as well.

Odd, that Metro has no alert for the Rapid Ride C-Line (which I only occasionally ride). I just checked, and the only alerts are for the upcoming 2nd & Columbia stop closure, and the alert regarding the Water Taxi dock.

The C isn’t missing any stops. It is rerouting down California (eastbound at least) and turning left on Oregon before turning back to hit the Junction stop. Not sure about westbound at this point.

Thanks, Cam, that makes sense.  I’ll bet westbound, after the Junction stop,  is going right on 44th, R. on Oregon, R. on California.

I have seen and heard the rumble of buses traveling over these broken concrete panels good to see them being replaced. Another concrete panel possibly two which are broken are the northbound lanes of 42nd ave sw at sw alaska st beside QFC. They are in terrible shape and I have reported them to sdot I believe they are broken due to construction traffic and worsened by heavy rainfall last winter.

Your transit dollars being used to cover the damage caused by galloping gerty articulated buses — check out east bound Barton – esp between 35th and 26th

I told my son back in June how bad most of the roads are in WS, we just happened to be right in this spot when I told him and said wow that is a big dip and lots of broken up pavement to go over.  I am glad to see they are fixing this spot.  I think everyone who owns a car in WS will love that this is getting fixed.

Once again – here we go fixing damage to roads caused by large articulating busses while closing down the road for the rest of us during rush hour. The war on parking/cars continues…

Once again – a good thing happening for everyone in the community spun into a conspiracy theory. Lighten up, dude! You only have to re-route for a week!

I think the constant roll of huge construction vehicles has something to do with our poor roads too.

Aren’t you tired of the patchwork quilt approach to street repair around here? Our streets in WS are a disgrace in so many places. It would be great to see our main arteries repaved once in a while…complete in both directions.

Sorry, comment time is over.
