WEST SEATTLE RESTAURANTS: Srivilai Thai on the way to ex-Blackboard Bistro

Thanks to Josh for the tip: That small sign has appeared in the window of the ex-Blackboard Bistro at 3247 California SW, just three weeks after it closed, announcing that Srivilai Thai Cuisine is “coming soon.” After receiving Josh’s note, we went over for a look, but didn’t find anyone there, and so far we haven’t found any additional information online – we’ll update when we do!

Yummy! Thai around the corner from my house. We’ll be there!

Best of luck to the Thai place. But, damn, it’s a shame one of West Seattle’s few chef driven options is gone. I thought with all this development we’d see a few more people take a risk on West Seattle. I guess I’ll hold out hope for Vine & Spoon.

I really believe that, because of said development, we ARE seeing a lot more restaurants and options in W. Seattle.
Has W. Sea. achieved a level of culinarilly inventive restaurants as have some other parts of the city? Not yet, but along with the new fill-in development that’s coming on line and the slow shedding of the bias about W. Seattle’s remoteness, we have been seeing a lot of new and interesting places being opened by respected chefs and some adventurous newcomers over the last few years.
Compare where we are to even ten years ago; the number and diversity of options is far greater.
Funny thing, along with population density come more retail and entertainment -including restaurants- options.
      —-
So many over the years on this very forum have complained about both the increasing density of our community as well as the lack dining options (“I hope they’re child friendly.” “Gluten free/veg options?” “Not another pizza/Mexican place!?!”), as though one was possible without the other.

I luvs ya, W. Seattle, you’ll forever amuse me.
Sorry folks, but we can’t pull up the draw-bridge. Along with our fellow W. Seattleites, whether we’ve been here 6 months, 6 years, or 6 generations, we immigrants bring vibrancy to our community while providing the urban density to make a diverse range of commercial establishments possible. Enjoy!

  • Love Thai Food but... September 11, 2017 (9:01 am)

I love Thai food but… man… don’t we have enough? Seems like the only restaurants that open are Thai and Pizza joints. ( I realize that’s not *quite* true but it feels that way). I’ll try it because I really do like Thai and trying new Thai places is great, but…. I’m a vote for variety. We have enough fantastic Thai places already!

I think it’ll do really well.  With all the density I suspect it’ll be busy and not have much, if any, impact on the other Thai options in WS.  Best of luck to them and I hope the food is really good.

Thai food is too vague to describe the cuisine. If it is like 95 percent of all Thai food in the area, then best of luck but whateves.

If it is like Pestle Rock in Ballard or even better, Pok Pok in Portland, YES PLEASE!!!

I’ve been wanting to make that point. We have become sophisticated enough audience, or at least capable of quickly educating ourselves, that we should be getting beyond “Thai” and “Mexican,” “Italian,” and so on.
There is a big difference between Isan cuisine and Lanna and Phak Tai. Time for these restaurants to proudly proclaim the region they represent.

I sure hope it’s something creative like Pestle Rock – love that place! Or Thaiku on Phinney.

Any word on what is happening at the old Zatz’s Bagel space? The work on “Soprano’s” seems to have stalled.

    • WSB September 11, 2017 (5:34 pm)

Someone asked that a couple days ago. They recently posted on social media again that they would be “open soon” for dine-in. They apparently have been delivering pizza from the back for some time – Soprano’s is apparently a local chain.

So sad. I am very underwhelmed by Blackboard being replaced with yet another Thai place.

Will be interesting to check out. Maybe a bit unusual fair like others pointed out would rock!

‘All’ the other Thai places are only three actually… it’s not like the 27 (?) Pizzerias here in WS!

As a neighbor of Buddha Ruska I’d say WS can easily handle another Thai restaurant and the sooner the better if it reduces some of the traffic on my street. And for the neighbors of the new place get ready- you might think you like garlic but not when you have to close your window so the whole house doesn’t stink.

if you are a regular customer of BR and are frustrated about the lack of parking please consider talking with the owner. Many of the cars parked close by are employees. He might listen to customers, money talks.

I hope it is as good as Thaitan on California Ave in West Seattle!  That place rocks!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
