On the C line going down Avalon. Bus stuck in long line of traffic blocking BUS ONLY lane, West Seattle must have many drivers who are illiterate and cannot read the signs? Le sigh.

One of several very poorly designed intersections as it relates to the bus lane.  If they weren’t in the bus lane waiting they would be in the straight through lane blocking through traffic on Avalon.

Lane reductions have made traffic worse, whether that be bus only lanes, bus bulbs, bike lanes, road diets, speed reductions. People throw their arms up and complain, but elect the next politician in line thinking things will get better yet who are a continuation of the one before. Ask yourself if Moon and Durkan are different?

TJ – Traffic being worse is not an excuse to violate traffic laws. If you believe that those lanes should be open to all vehicles there are appropriate forums for that kind of political action. Saying that bad traffic excuses drivers blocking a bus only lane would be the same as arguing that an empty road is an excuse to drive whatever speed you want.

Bingo, CAM! Well put, thank you.

Wow- I don’t think TJ was saying that at all!

It should be CLEARLY understood that the BUS ONLY lane is not to be used as a passing lane, nor should any vehicle other than buses & first responders cut this line early…EVER as you near the 1st Ave. exit.  It’s not only arrogant, it causes accidents for which you will be held accountable.  #stopbeingdicks

@CAM, I never said I agree with breaking traffic laws. As another commenter said, that stretch of road is extremely poorly designed, but my point was to roads in general. Many drivers have reached a boiling point in the reduced capacity of our roads, so seeing people cheat in these lanes shouldn’t really be a surprise. And I know there are “appropriate forums” for my angst, and I take responsibility for not making my voice heard and letting a extremely vocal minority influence our elected officials. Luckily what’s been done to our roads can be undone, but it would take the majority to mobilize and make our voices louder than the transit crusaders

Sorry, comment time is over.
