ABOUT THE HELICOPTER: Police searching for burglary suspect

11:12 AM: Thanks for the tips about the Guardian One law-enforcement helicopter over North Delridge and vicinity. We just talked to Seattle Police, who say they are looking for a suspect in a reported break-in in the 4500 block of 23rd SW [map]. They do have a partial description; black, male, 6’2″, dreadlocks, dark top and red shorts, last seen leaving on foot. If you have any information, call 911.

ADDED FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Paige, whose home was broken into, tells her story in this comment.

This looks close to Pathfinder. Are they on lock down?

Haven’t heard anything about lockdowns. There was no word of a weapon involved, nor any injury, and the helicopter probably wouldn’t have been called in except that it happened to be available – it’s since moved on. If you know the area, while it looks close on the map “as the crow flies,” there are steep slopes and greenbelts between the two points (which is why the roads don’t connect east-west).

We were the ones who were robbed.   I was downstairs working and my husband was upstairs showering (we have a 3 level home – burglar entered into our main floor with living room and kitchen) when a black male (6’2 ish, in his 20s with dreadlocks to the shoulders or a bit longer with an athletic frame in a red top and dark bottoms or dark bottoms and a red top) Entered  our home through our unlocked back door accessed via our gated backyard. This happened in the broad daylight at 10:30 this morning. Both my husband and myself were still at home at the time and both of our cars were parked in front of our house. (We are assuming he never saw bc he probably came in from the back). He did pull off a screen and wipe the window to look into the downstairs office which is at the back of the house. Brazen to say the least. Thank goodness our kids were at school. Thankfuly we are all safe  but suffice it to say I feel extremely violated and am very shaken. The suspect got off with a lot of our technology which was all plugged in at one charging station (that’s sure made it easy for him 😥😡) as well as my work computer and my purse.  He got a couple of iPads (one is a pink kids case and one in a green kids case)a black galaxy tablet, a black levano laptop, a leap pad in green case, a kindle in a case with blue and green Pattern as well as some other things. I’ve been able to lock two of the iPads but if anyone finds anything discarded please contact the local police and me (or the West Seattle blog).  I went around walking checking bushes and garbage cans and then drove around as well but wasn’t able to find anything. I imagine he was well into the Greenbelt or under some sort of cover by the time the chopper got in the air.  I caught him in the act and he ran out our backyard but unfortunately I was not able to see what direction he went after that. Again,  if anyone sees anyone matching that description or finds any property discarded please please contact the police and me as well. Thank you very much. Keep those doors locked even if you’re at home, so sad it’s come to that. Be safe everyone.

Thank you for the update. So sorry to hear it happened. (And no, no new info – the active search has long since broken up, but when we’re done with the interview – unrelated – that we’re in now, we’ll be calling SPD to check.)
