About that plaque at New Luck Toy…

Something new at New Luck Toy: One patron now has a seat at the bar with his name on a plaque.

That’s Brent Amaker, local musician and entrepreneur – you might remember him as the headliner on West Seattle Summer Fest night 2 – seen below with New Luck Toy co-proprietor Chef Mark Fuller.

Story goes that Fuller told Amaker the plaque was OK as long as he installed it. That happened Thursday afternoon – instead of a guitar, Amaker wielded a power tool. Final result – crafted by Jimmy Davies of Craftsman Copper in Olympia:

The bar-with-Chinese-food at 5905 California SW has been open almost 10 months.

I’ve read though this a few times and I feel like the why is missing here. He wanted a plaque so if he installed it he got to have one.  Why did he want a plaque? Is he a regular? Does he perform there? Is he an investor? Was it an inside joke?  Can anyone have a plaque if they install it themselves?

      I agree, I don’t get it 😐

Can I sit there if it’s the only seat open? Do I have to leave if Mr Amaker shows up? Do I really want to bother with this hipster protocol, or would I rather go somewhere quieter and less pretentious? I could always get some cutely apportioned poké at Ma’Ono, I suppose.

No more so than sitting on a park bench with a plaque, to my knowledge. Aside from the fact that park benches are more often plaqued in honor of somebody who’s gone on to the next plane of existence, so if their namesake(s) showed up, that would really be news.

Sorry, comment time is over.
