WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: The case of the stolen bags

From the “unusual theft” files, this report from Hannah:

Overnight, someone stole all the tree gator/water drip bags from our street (including ours and the neighbors). On Graham St SW, between 49th and 50th Ave SW in Seaview. Jerks! And also, WHY?

The missing bags are dark green.

WHY?  Because those bags are expensive, not identifiable, and easy to take.

They cost $24 EACH on amazon.  Taking all of them can easily net a few hundred bucks when sold on craiglist.

I think a better question is why does a  plastic bag with a zipper cost $24?

Is there a large market for tree watering bags ? I thought the city deploys them for the first few years of SDOT street tree plantings, so there’s not exactly a shortage of bags around.

Start asking neighbors on all sides if any porch cameras, and if there’s an uptick in more being stolen.. probably same person/s will be on the videos.

Chris: Because the City will buy them.

I was appalled to learn while working for local schools how much we pay for a box of crayons under contract with an office supplier. Why spend 8.00 a box when I could have stopped at the dollar store on the way to work? But, that was not allowed. We were only allowed to buy from the company we were under contract with.

Sorry, comment time is over.
