WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Police search in Fauntleroy

4:18 PM: Thanks for the tips. The police activity in the south end of Fauntleroy, including the Endolyne business zone, is because of a reported home burglary. We have few details but we did confirm that police have just taken one person into custody at 44th and Wildwood and are expected to search the house soon to be sure no one else is inside.

4:29 PM: Police have searched the home and found no one inside, so the incident is winding down. They tell us the original call, a burglary in progress, came from the homeowner.

    Good job homeowner and SPD!

I live down the block from the home that reported the burglary, and just noticed that someone was in our back yard today. We had a ladder back there, but neither my husband nor I left it leaning against the wall between our house and the neighbor’s house. We’re fine and nothing seems to be missing, but looks like they were cruising from yard to yard. SPD, please reply if you are checking this and want more information.

You need to report this Kate. They’re not going to contact you. Time for cameras.

Thank you (and Double Dub Resident) for the reply. Right after I posted this, I also emailed our neighborhood’s crime prevention coordinator from SPD. I’m just not sure how useful my information is, since I didn’t actually see a person doing anything, just the ladder placement. Which kind of irks me! I wish I had seen someone/something more specific. And yes, cameras are a good idea.

Kate, SPD is NOT going to reply to this. They have too much going on to. You need to be proactive and contact SPD

Thank you. Right after I posted this, I also emailed our neighborhood’s crime prevention coordinator from SPD. I’m not really sure how useful the information is, since I didn’t see anyone in action, but figured I’d put it out there.

This information is useless unless you actually call the police when they are actively investigating a break in/robbery. Timing may be everything when someone is fleeing and loose in your neighborhood. If there was a suspect running loose in MY neighborhood and I noticed something obvious had been moved in MY yard, of course I would be calling 911.

Kate’s comment is timestamped 2 1/2 hours after our first report, at which time the suspect was already in custody, so I don’t know that she was noticing this while “a suspect (was) running loose.” At any rate, I also would disagree that the information is useless. One challenge police have in cases where people flee – from burglarized houses, stolen cars, whatever – is amassing evidence. This kind of thing could be, belatedly. I don’t know how the call eventually resolved – the only thing in that area that has an incident number on Tweets by Beat right now is “narcotics found/recovered” in the 9300 block of 45th SW, which would match the area (TBBs usually post with a couple hours lag: https://twitter.com/SeattlePDW3/status/875552876197695488 ) – TR

Thanks, I didn’t see that the suspect in the robbery was caught. My reply had more to do with the “reporting” of suspicious activity on a blog instead of calling the cops. The ladder being moved (if it was used by suspect) is absolutely useful information IF the investigators are given that information in a timely manner.

Thanks for the comments and opinions. As I mentioned, I did also contact the SPD immediately after I commented here, just not through 911 since by the time I noticed the ladder, the incident was long over, and the blog post indicated that the suspect was caught. I heard back from the person I contacted at SPD, and they know to contact me if they want more information. My initial comment was made simply to cover my bases.

Sorry, comment time is over.
